- Gusty north to east winds coupled with low humidity will result in elevated fire weather concerns for lower elevations Saturday-Monday
DISCUSSION
....Today-Friday...
Cooler temperatures are expected today, with highs in the 80s and increased Delta Breeze as a weak trough passes to the north.
Temperatures will gradually warm through Friday as westerly flow sets up aloft, with widespread Minor HeatRisk. High temperatures in the Valley will be in the mid 80s to low 90s Thursday & Friday.
West to southwest winds will be breezy through the Delta through end of week which will provide additional cooling amidst the warmer highs.
Saturday through Monday
Concerns for gusty northerly winds continue to increase for the weekend through Monday as ensembles depict a more defined inside- slider signature with a trough moving into the Great Basin early next week. The latest NBM highlights strongest winds on Sunday and Monday, with lighter but still breezy north winds on Saturday north of I-80. Current forecast have north winds gusts of 30 to 45 MPH this weekend, strongest on Sunday and Monday and along Interstate 5.
Dry conditions develop over the Sacramento Valley, especially north of Interstate 80, with the NBM showing minimum Relative Humidity getting into the teens and upper single digits.
This will bring elevated fire weather concerns to the Valley and portions of the Delta. We will continue to monitor trends and evaluate strength of winds/subsequent drying effect through the Valley.
