DISCUSSION
Satellite image shows the upper trough just east of the Cascades. On the backside of the upper low, a thinker cloud layer is moving in from the north along with enhanced steadier precipitation. Light steady rain is being reported in Eugene, Roseburg, and along the coast north of Cape Blanco. The high res short range models show the steadier precipitation moving from north to south during the afternoon and they have been showing this trend the past couple of runs. Precipitation will increase in the afternoon and lasting into this evening, and mainly concentrated along and west of the Cascades.
Light to occasionally moderate precipitation will continue into this evening, then gradually diminishing overnight tonight. However there are indications light rain could be persistent north of the Umpqua Divide and northern Cascades overnight tonight.
The general consensus suggest ample cloud cover will remain tonight.
There could be brief periods of clearing since were not expecting overcast skies, and this should slow down the amount of cooling during the overnight period. A few locations east of the Cascades could get towards freezing for an hour ot two towards daybreak Sunday.
Sunday, any showers will be isolated and ending towards mid morning with dry weather likely for the afternoon. Clouds will also gradually diminish with partly cloudy skies by the afternoon.
Afternoon temperature Sunday will rebound and will be warmer for the interior.
Clouds are expected to diminish Sunday evening with mostly clear skies Sunday night. However, there will be warming aloft and guidance suggest areas between Chemult and Crescent are at highest risk of getting near freezing towards daybreak Monday.
The upcoming work week is expected to be dry with warmer temperatures for the interior. While afternoon temperatures will be above normal, were not expecting hot temperatures. For example, high temperatures for interior westside valleys will be in the mid to upper 80s to near 90, except for slight cooling Wednesday and Thursday.
The clusters and ensemble mens suggest upper ridging building into the area towards the start of next weekend. It will be at this point where we could have afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 90s for the interior westside valleys and upper 80s east of the Cascades.
