- Potential for unsettled weather mid next week
- Warming trend is expected

- Generally dry weather expected through Memorial Day
We have a generally dry forecast through Memorial Day as no major systems are expected to affect the area through that time. In fact surface high pressure will dominate the area through Monday.
The only chance for rain is small and limited in area. This afternoon in the eastern CWA towards highway 127 we cannot rule out a stray rain shower.
Today's chance is very limited and we have actually maintained a dry forecast. The lingering area of low pressure in the eastern Great Lakes could still provide a small 20 pct chance for a rain shower towards Lansing and Jackson due to the closer proximity to the low. We feel the chances are too low to include in the forecast however.
- Potential for unsettled weather mid next week
The next chance is a much better likelihood and comes on Tuesday continuing into Wednesday. Easterly flow will have developed by this time with low pressure in the Ohio Valley. Aloft a shortwave moves through the region in northwest flow. There is some disparity in the operational models in the mid week time frame as essentially we have an upper low drifting through a mean ridge position. Models are struggling in nailing down exactly how the pattern evolves, specifically the timing and location of the upper low. We have leaned on the operational ECMWF and have low pops in the forecast (20-40 pct) from Tuesday into Wednesday.
- Warming trend is expected
Models have been consistent in showing rising heights and warming 850mb temperatures. 850mb temps aloft today will be around zero C or even slightly negative. We should remain well below normal today for highs (stuck in the 50s) given the colder air in place aloft. We steadily warm into next week when 850mb temps will have risen into the +8 to +10C range by Wed/Thurs. As such, we have high temperatures reaching the 60s Sun/Mon and around 70 for next Thurs.
AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SATURDAY/
Issued at 145 PM EDT Fri May 23 2025
The Great Lakes upper low continues to influence our weather, but will be less and less of a factor as we move into the weekend.
High pressure to the northwest will take on a greater role and advect drier air into the region, reflected in higher ceilings beginning tonight.
We'll see VFR cigs at all of the terminals after 00z.
MARINE
Issued at 330 AM EDT Fri May 23 2025
We are not expecting hazardous conditions on Lake Michigan through the holiday weekend. Winds and waves fell below advisory levels yesterday evening and we expect sub advisory levels the next few days. Winds will generally be northwest to north through Sunday, with speeds that are generally expected to be less than 20 knots.
High pressure will gradually move into the region the next 24 hours and remain in place through Memorial Day.
