KEY MESSAGES

- Breezy with a few sprinkles/isolated showers this afternoon, followed by subsiding winds and precip this evening.

- Cold Sunday night with a 70-90% chance of temperatures at or below freezing across northern Wisconsin.

- Cool trend continues into much of next week. A medium chance (20-50%) of rain through the midweek.

DISCUSSION
Issued at 336 PM CDT Sat May 17 2025

Upper low moving across Wisconsin today has made for a cooler, cloudy, and breezy day. Radar imagery shows isolated showers/sprinkles have been roaming about in association with the low. In any one location these were/will be short lived and light, with dry weather for most locations the rest of the day.

Upper low continues to track east tonight which will allow winds to subside, but lingering low level moisture will keep clouds around tonight. These clouds will help keep temperatures from falling below freezing, but far north-central WI (mainly Vilas Co.) could see some patchy frost where temperatures locally approach freezing. The northern part of the County has a 20% chance to fall below 32 degrees.

Continued cool with a slight north breeze on Sunday, with more afternoon and evening clearing. Temps Sunday night will likely fall below freezing across north-central Wisconsin, with frost or a freeze likely (50-90% chance for temps at or below freezing for the northern half of the CWA).

Cooler trend continues through most of next week with temperatures at or below normal. Dry weather is likely on Monday, then higher uncertainty regarding the evolution in the pattern starting Tuesday. A low pressure system is expected to move across the central of country, but northeast WI is wedged between the northern edge of this system, and dry high pressure to the north.
Therefore, some rain will be possible (esp. southern half of forecast area), but if the dry air wins out dry weather is more likely through the midweek. A progressive upper pattern into next weekend may lead to a few on/off rain chances as well.

AVIATION
for 00Z TAF Issuance Issued at 550 PM CDT Sat May 17 2025

BKN-OVC clouds prevailed across the TAF sites early this evening with a mix of MVFR/VFR CIGs . Conditions should settle in at the MVFR category as the evening progresses and continue through Sunday morning. Some IFR CIGs will be possible across north- central Wisconsin late tonight. Some clearing and improvement to VFR is expected Sunday afternoon, especially across central and east-central Wisconsin. Gusty northwest winds will subside later tonight, with light winds expected on Sunday.

MARINE
Issued at 336 PM CDT Sat May 17 2025

Wind gusts to 25 knots remain possible through this evening, so current Small Craft Advisory continues. Winds should subside this evening. Conditions hazardous to small craft develop again Monday with a prolonged stretch of high winds and waves likely into Wednesday.
