Marine Weather and Tide Forecast for Belfast, ME

NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/
625 PM Update...Just minor changes to PoPs and temperatures with this update as the forecast remains in good shape. A shortwave remains draped over the region which has led to a nice cumulus field over the northern part of the CWA and some weak echos on radar, but I believe current dewpoint depressions are too high for anything to be reaching the ground. Still an isolated shower/sprinkle is still possible as we cool this evening and shrink those dewpoint depressions, especially along the Connecticut River Valley where showers are working their way eastward from Vermont.

Light onshore flow continues through the afternoon before easing around sunset. Any isolated showers across the higher terrain through the afternoon and early evening hours dissipate with the loss of daytime heating.

Mainly clear skies continue through the overnight in most areas, allowing for another night of radiational cooling. A few more high clouds likely linger across southern New Hampshire, helping to keep temps a little warmer with lows in the low 50s overnight. Elsewhere, lows likely dip into the 40s. Despite winds mostly becoming calm at the surface, moisture continues to move in on a light onshore flow aloft. Similar to last night, patchy fog is likely to develop again tonight as moisture banks up east of the mountains. With a bit more moisture in place, coverage is likely to be a little more widespread and longer lasting that last night't fog was.

SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/
Light onshore flow continues as high pressure slowly moves further off to the east on Monday, with increasing sunshine through the morning hours as the fog lifts and dissipates. Fair weather cumulus clouds develop again tomorrow, with some isolated showers across the higher terrain. Overall tomorrow looks quite similar to today's conditions, but is likely to be a few degrees warmer across the area.

During the overnight hours tomorrow, moisture likely continues to move in from the south through the overnight. Some scattered showers or patchy drizzle may start to move into southern New Hampshire during the overnight hours as a warm front gradually moves through the Northeast. A few showers may also move across northern areas through the overnight as a weak mid level trough lifts through. With more clouds and moisture around, lows likely remain in the 50s in most spots.

LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/
High pressure will remain just offshore on Tuesday. The will aid in the development of a WAA pattern with a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the afternoon, especially in the far interior where heating should be greater. With the WAA pattern will come clouds too, so we expect a mostly cloudy day with temperatures really not that much warmer than the mid 70s inland and around 70, if not 60s along the coast.

The WAA pattern will continue on Wednesday with an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms. SFC temps should get into the 80s during the afternoon after any morning action. Dew points will be on the rise also.

A significant cold front approaches the region on Thursday.
Temperatures in the 80s to around 90 with dew points well into the 60s should make for a hot and humid day at many locations in the forecast area as long as clouds and showers don't get going too early. Depending on the timing of the cold front, a few thunderstorms may be strong to severe late afternoon and evening.

AVIATION /22Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/
Short Term...VFR prevails into this evening. IFR to LIFR likely then spreads inland with marine fog and low stratus from the coast through the evening hours. LEB and HIE likely miss the marine fog and stratus, but see patchy valley fog develop late tonight. The fog then burns off through the morning, with VFR conditions likely returning to all terminals by late morning.
IFR and LIFR will be possible again Monday night with fog and low status, especially across southern and coastal terminals.

Long Term...Onshore flow probably brings in some low stratus and fog, at least at the coast Tuesday night and Wednesday and may last into Thursday. A strong cold front moves through Thu evening with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

MARINE
Short Term...Fair conditions continue through Monday night as high pressure remains centered east of the waters. Some areas of fog are possible tonight, especially closer to the coast.

Long Term...High pressure gradually moves eastward across the North Atlantic through midweek next week with generally fair conditions. However, fog will be possible. A cold front approaches late in the week, with SCA conditions possible in southwesterly flow ahead of the front by late Wednesday or Thursday.
