Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 304 PM PDT Mon May 12 2025

SYNOPSIS
Lingering moisture with an upper low passing to the south will keep scattered showers and possibly an isolated afternoon thunderstorm in the forecast today. Upper level ridging will start to build into the area midweek for the return of drier conditions.
A broad upper level trough will bring showery weather back to our area into the end of the week.

SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/
A upper level low continues to move towards the northern OR coast, spinning up some moisture through western Washington. Recent radar imagery shows some scattered showers across the area this afternoon, mostly in the Cascades and the Olympics. Models have been suggesting once again a little bit of instability across the interior this afternoon with a potential of some thunder, with an isolated thunderstorm or two possible later this afternoon into the early part of the evening. Shower activity will continue into the evening before dissipating overnight, with high temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

As the aforementioned upper level low moves southeastward, the area will begin to dry out into Tuesday with a weak upper level ridge attempting to build into the area. Conditions look mostly dry Tuesday into Wednesday, with a chance of showers largely in the higher terrain in the Cascades and Olympics. High temperatures will remain in the lower to mid 60s for the interior, with mid to upper 50s for the coast and water adjacent locations.

Broad troughing looks to shift into our area Thursday and bring in a more showery weather pattern into the long term period.

LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/
Ensembles are generally in consensus with upper level troughing returning to western Washington for the weekend. QPF values look rather light, but generally looking at a more unsettled showery weather pattern into the early half of next week. Temperatures remain largely unchanged during this time, staying in the low to mid 60s.
