KEY MESSAGES

1. Temperatures will change little today then lower to near normal on Monday. A slight warmup is expected midweek then cooling again to a little below normal by next weekend.

2. There is a 10 chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada around Yosemite NP Monday afternoon and evening.

3. Gusty west winds will continue to develop across the Kern County mountains and desert each afternoon and evening. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Mojave Desert Slopes from 5 PM this evening through 8 AM Monday morning.

DISCUSSION
Maximum temperatures on Saturday topped out around 3 to 6 degrees above climatological normals for this time of the year. Similar conditions are expected today then an upper trough will deepen over the west on Monday. Temperatures will nudge down to around normal on Monday then bounce back up to a few degrees above normal midweek before falling back down to near normal again by then end of the week. Here are the probabilities for a high temperature of 86 degrees or higher for locations across the San Joaquin Valley this afternoon.

Limited moisture should allow for some cumulus buildups over the Sierra Nevada the next couple of afternoons but with only a 10 percent chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms along the crest of the Sierra around Yosemite NP on Monday. Moisture wanes for the rest of the week with sunny skies prevailing.

A modest onshore pressure gradient will persist resulting in gusty westerly winds across the Kern County mountains and desert each afternoon and evening. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Mojave Desert Slopes from 5 PM this evening through 8 AM Monday morning.
