Swift # 47 The early days

Hello Brian and Allen

Jeanine Sande here.. my parents owned Swift during the 1960's - probably 63 or 64 until about 68.. I was in my teens and don't remember the dates.. Here are the photos we could find.. sorry about the upside-down and sideways ones.. I asked my husband to scan them in and, well...

When we got Swift the hull was white. Later we painted it the lovely light blue. The upside down photo was our family.. I guess it was about 1963 because I think that's when my hair was blonde.. Both my parents, Bob and Katy Sande, are deceased.

I have such fond memories of sailing.. we had the boat in San Pedro, and sailed to the Isthmus on Catalina Island almost every summer weekend.. We did one wonderful longer trip to Santa Cruz Island. I got seasick and so I talk about "barfing my way to Catalina every weekend", apparently talking about feeling sick so much that by the time we arrived everyone was feeling sick. What a sailor, huh?

I think my parents did a bit of racing - I believe it was in the Ensenada race several times with a crew other than me and my sister who were not that much help..

It was so wonderful to see your (Brian's) photos of Swift.. she is still a lovely boat.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions (not that I could answer them.. maybe my sister can).. I have such love for the boat - would love to see it one of these days.

Blessings and happy sailing. Jeanine
