Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 215 PM MST Fri May 31 2024
SYNOPSIS
High temperatures remain above normal this weekend and through next week. Continue to expect the occasional afternoon wind gust as well due to daytime heating.
the
DISCUSSION
Predominantly clear skies across SE AZ today with the occasional wisps of cirrus. The main story for the start of June is heat, heat, heat. High temperatures in the lower valleys to the west of Tucson hover around 100F with the valleys out east in the mid 90s. Locally cooler high temperatures in the higher terrain, mostly between the 70s and 80s.
Looking further out, our next attempt at a weather maker takes place late next week (Thursday through Saturday). A low off the coast of Baja California could help bring in some upper level moisture. However, different models have a varying trajectory for this disturbance. We could see the low push north, helping to increase our temperatures late next week, or move into our area, bringing upper level moisture along with it. If the low happens to sneak our way, we will see isolated dry thunderstorms bringing an occasional lightning strike and some gusty winds. Stay tuned!
AVIATION
Valid through 02/00Z.
SKC conditions throughout the entire TAF period today. SWLY SFC winds this afternoon with speeds generally under 12 kts with the occasional wind gust up to 20 kts. Light and variable overnight with SWLY SFC winds returning after 01/20Z. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments.
FIRE WEATHER
Dry conditions continue with min RH's in the single digits across the valleys and the teens in the higher terrain. High temperatures continue to be 2-5 degrees above normal through the next week. 20-foot winds continue to follow diurnal trends with the occasional afternoon wind gust. In general, 20-foot winds will generally be less than 15 mph.
TWC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
