Discussion
Currently
Under partly cloudy skies, temperatures are in the lower to mid
80s along the island chain. Meanwhile, local radars are only
detecting a few showers in our county warning area. Surface wise,
a ridge axis is draped over the florida peninsula and the
adjacent atlantic and gulf waters. On our coastal waters, east
winds of 10 knots or less except slightly higher south of the reef
tract are being felt. Otherwise, our morning sounding reveals an
unusually dry air mass ( pwat 1.48 inches) with the majority of
moisture confined below 850 mb. Light to gentle east winds veer to
southerly and increase above 600 mb. These latter winds are
associated with our region being on the eastern periphery of the
massive mid and upper level low centered in the southeast gulf of
mexico.

Short term (rest of today)
ahead of the tropical wave over the waters between andros island
and the bahamian chain, the primary precipitation source will be
wet cloud line genesis. Hence, low chance pops with high
temperatures in the lower 90s seems on track.

Marine
Away from any showers or thunderstorms, mostly east winds of
around 10 knots except 10 to 15 knots on the straits of florida
can be expected on our marine district for the rest of today.

Aviation
Vfr conditions are expected to prevail today at the key west and
florida keys marathon international terminals. Vicinity showers are
indicated at marathon with some potential at key west as initial
morning activity evolves into focused cloud lines near the lower
keys. Showers will be brief but could cause brief MVFR ifr
visibilities. Tonight, whileVFR is expected to prevail, increasing
coverage of showers and thunderstorms near the keys may lead to
possible temporary ifr once more specific timing can be determined.

Surface winds will remain northeast to east 5 to 10 knots through
tonight.

Climate
In 1929, the daily record low temperature of 72 degrees was last
recorded in key west. Temperature records have been kept since
1872.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
