Marine Weather and Tides
Layton, FL

Version 3.4
What's New / NOTES
5/20/2018 -- NOAA is having problems with the data feed that I use to draw the graphs. They are aware of the issue and working to resolve it. Sometimes changing the location by about a mile will give a correct graph. 3/3/2018 - There is a new GOES Satellite for the east coast that required rewriting that part of the code. Please report any issues.

Discussion
Currently - a surface ridge extends across the florida keys,
resulting in light and variable winds. Weak lower level ridging
remains near south florida and the keys, while the western fringe
of a broad dying tutt cell has moved into the south florida and
bahamas area. This mornings sounding indicated somewhat less
inhibition that yesterday, but there is still quite a bit of dry
air through the lower levels. The island cloud line got active
near the lower keys. However a northerly steering flow continues
to nudge this activity southwards into hawk channel and away from
land. South florida seabreeze activity has been lackluster, but a
few showers and thunderstorms have been present near the 18 mile
stretch.

Forecast - over the next couple of days, the surface ridge will
continue to work its way northward into the florida peninsula.

Light and variable winds will gradually become steady out of the
east to southeast. A subtle and short lived surge will arrive in
the keys late Sunday as the ridge lifts further northward.

Meanwhile, complex interaction with the residual tutt cell, some
diffluent flow and the weakness of the lower level ridge will help
amplify weakly amplify a lower level trough over the south
florida cuba area from tonight into Sunday night. This will result
in increasing confluent lower flow and moistening and cooling of
the lower levels. Hence will maintain mid chance pops from
tonight, and push it into Sunday night. Outside of convective
activity and related debris clouds, skies will remain partly
cloudy. Expect near normal temperatures.

The lower level trough is expected to push out to the west early
next week. Thereafter, through the work week, the surface ridge
will remain across the florida peninsula and the southeastern
united states. Overall, the gradient will remain loose, keeping
winds quite light and primarily out of the east to southeast. Weak
ridging will prevail through a deep layer. That along with the
time of year will keep the environment only weakly capped, if at
all, and with ample cape. Will maintain low chance through the
medium and extended and focus on nearer term features as they show
up. Expect temperatures to be near to slightly above normal with
dew points hovering in the mid 70s.

Marine
A weak ridge will lift northwards into the florida peninsula over
the next couple of days. Light and variable winds will strengthen
slightly for a short period Sunday night as the ridge pushes
further away to the north. Thereafter, the weak ridge will be
broad and across florida and the southeastern united states,
keeping winds light out of the east to southeast.

Aviation
Vfr conditions will prevail at both the key west and marathon
terminals thorugh this evening and overnight. A few vicinity showers
will linger near the key west airport through early evening. Near
surface winds will be light and variable through this evening,
becoming easterly near 5 knots overnight.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
