GMZ100 Synopsis For Baffin Bay To Rio Grande Out 60 Nm- 919 Am Cst Fri Nov 16 2018
Synopsis..Weak high pressure situated over the western gulf of mexico will continue supporting light surface winds and low seas today. A slight increase of onshore flow with little change in the sea state for the weekend. Increasing moisture and an approaching cold front are expected by Sunday night with the chance of showers and Thunderstorms into early next week. Elevated seas and moderate winds are expected behind the front late Sunday through Tuesday night due to a lingering surface trough of low pressure near the texas coastline. Small craft advisories may be needed across the lower texas gulf waters Sunday night and Monday.

Discussion Updated for latest aviation discussion below.

Aviation The very dry airmass currently in place over the rgv
airports will maintainVFR conditions over the upcoming 24 hours.

Near perfect flying conditions expected.

Prev discussion issued 424 am cst Fri nov 16 2018
short term (today through Saturday): the 500 mb flow pattern will
trend more zonal throughout the short term period. Meanwhile, the
atms over the region will remain pretty dry today as the 00z bro
soundings shows a pwat of only 0.4 inches. These moisture levels
will start to rebound somewhat on Sat as the low level flow becomes
more SE as the surface ridge shifts eastwards. This will allow for
an increase of mainly cld cover on sat. But the moisture levels will
still be too shallow for any serious rain chcs tomorrow. So will go
with a steady warmup of temps throughout the short term due to the
combination of the sunshine and the increasing low level waa. Will
go on the warmer side of guidance through tomorrow for highs.

Long term (Saturday night through Thursday): a mostly zonal flow
across 500mb allows multiple rounds of energy and disturbances to
zip west to east late Saturday night through Tuesday, as moisture
at lower levels beings to increase. Have kept widely scattered
showers beginning Saturday night and continuing into Sunday. A
weak surface cold front works through deep south texas late Sunday
through Monday, setting up as a coastal trough of low pressure
through mid week. Any chance of convection would happen with the
combination of the surface boundary and mid-level disturbances on
Monday afternoon; likely remaining elevated.

As the coastal trough strengthens, the best chance of rainfall
remains along the lower texas coast with cloudy, cool, and wet
conditions dragging Monday night into Wednesday morning. A larger
shortwave works into southern california on Tuesday and dives
southeast toward the gulf coast Wednesday into thanksgiving
dragging a surface cold front with it, finally kicking the coastal
trough further east. The GFS has been aggressive with this
feature, while the ECMWF rotates the disturbance more northward,
across central texas. Have split the difference at the moment with
a weak cold front dropping temperatures for thanksgiving and
improving conditions beyond.

Marine (today through Saturday): as the surface high shifts
steadily eastward over the gulf of mex throughout the short term
period, the surface flow will become more SE tonight and Sat and
will steadily increase as the pgf strengthens somewhat. The gulf
seas and bay conditions will remain pretty benign for the time
being. No SCA conditions expected through sat.

Saturday night through Tuesday night: light to moderate winds and
seas Saturday night continue into Sunday afternoon. A weak cold
front Sunday night into Monday and coastal trough into mid week
build seas through the period, with near small craft advisory
conditions offshore Monday and Monday night.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
