area forecast discussion
national weather service tampa bay ruskin fl
750 pm edt Thu jun 20 2019

Update
Surface ridge remains south of the area with rather dry air,
precipitable water less than 1.5 inches, spreading into much of
the area within the southwest to west flow. However, a band of
deeper moisture south of a weakening cool front moving into the
southeast states will drift south into north florida overnight
into Friday and this will lead to scattered showers and
thunderstorms across northern parts of our forecast area late
tonight into Friday afternoon. Otherwise, fair dry weather is
expected across the rest of the region. Have tweaked rain chances
up for later tonight into Friday morning across the northern
counties, otherwise remainder of forecast looks good.

Aviation
Vfr conditions are expected through the period. Southwest to west
winds at 6 to 10 knots this evening will diminish overnight to
less than 6 knots then increase during Friday morning back to near
10 knots by early afternoon.

Marine
High pressure ridge south of florida will keep a southwest to west
wind flow at 15 knots or less over the coastal waters through
Friday. Over the weekend weak high pressure sets up over the
eastern gulf of mexico with rather light northwest winds, except
increasing some with the sea breeze each afternoon. Rather dry air
will persist with minimal rain thunderstorm chances continuing
through the weekend. No other marine impacts expected.

Prev discussion issued 229 pm edt Thu jun 20 2019
discussion...

the upper ridge and reflective surface high pressure continue to
extend westward over southern florida and into the gulf of mexico.

This will keep a southwest to west flow over the region through
early Friday. At that time, the upper ridge and surface high
begins to lift north with a surface high center parking over the
eastern gulf of mexico by Saturday morning. This will allow for
decreasing winds on Friday into the weekend. Drier air moves in
with high pressure allowing for pw values to drop from 1.71 inches
that we saw on this mornings sounding down to around 1.2 to 1.5
inches through the weekend. Minimal rain chances can be expected
starting today and continuing through Sunday. With decreasing
clouds and rain chances, temperatures will be on the rise with
daytime highs reaching the low to mid 90s each day with some upper
90s possible over the interior. The ridge slips north of the area
by Monday and Tuesday allowing for an increase in moisture with
pw values creeping back up to 1.5 to 2.0 inches. With increasing
moisture, rain storm chances will be on the rise as well with
daily sea breezes. With the east coast sea breeze being dominant,
the highest coverage of rain will be over the east coast and
interior counties during the afternoon hours beginning Monday and
continuing through next week.

Fire weather...

high pressure south of florida ridges west producing a southwest
wind flow and minimal rain chances across the florida peninsula for
the next few days. No fire weather hazards expected for the next
several days as relative humidity values remain above critical
levels.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
