area forecast discussion
national weather service tampa bay ruskin fl
432 am edt Sun sep 23 2018

Short term (today-Monday)
Some mid upper level ridging will build over the region as the
mid upper level low over the gulf of mexico continues to drift
west away from the area. Surface high pressure will also continue
to ridge southwest from the atlantic ocean across the florida
peninsula keeping an easterly flow in place. Plenty of moisture
will remain across the area today and with a late day sea breeze
collision expected near the coast we should see scattered to
numerous showers and thunderstorms develop with highest chances
along and west of the interstate 75 corridor from the tampa bay
area south. Convection will move west out into the gulf during the
evening hours with partly cloudy skies overnight. On Monday some
drier air will overspread much of the area during the morning into
mid-afternoon hours limiting the coverage and delaying the onset
of the showers and thunderstorms. Some deeper moisture will return
late in the day and evening across the nature coast south into
central florida which is where the best chances of rain are
expected. Temperatures will continue to be near to a few degrees
above normal.

Mid term long term (Monday night-Saturday)
Ridging will be in place across the area through the week with
east to southeast flow in place and afternoon sea breezes turning
winds onshore along the coast late in the afternoons. This will
also allow for scattered later afternoon and evening showers and
thunderstorms across the area. Lows will generally be in the lower
to mid 70s inland and in the mid 70s to near 80 along the coast.

Highs will generally be in the lower 90s each day.

Aviation
Some MVFR ceilings will be possible once daytime heating gets
underway during the mid to late morning, then scattered showers
and thunderstorms will cause MVFR local ifr conditions along with
gusty winds up to 30 knots this afternoon and evening. Otherwise,
mainlyVFR conditions should prevail with east to southeast winds
at 5 to 10 knots, except shifting to onshore close to the gulf
coast this afternoon.

Marine
Atlantic high pressure will extend across the florida peninsula
and gulf of mexico through the period. Rather benign conditions
are expected each day with the main hazard being scattered mainly
late afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms which will be
capable of producing locally gusty winds and rough seas.

Fire weather
No fire weather hazards are expected for the next several days as
relative humidity values will remain well above critical levels.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
