area forecast discussion
national weather service jacksonville fl
252 am edt Wed apr 25 2018

Near term (today and tonight)
Skies will be partly cloudy as a dry westerly flow dominates the
area. West winds will become breezy this afternoon with seasonal
temperatures and low humidity continuing.

Short term (Thursday and Friday)
A shortwave trough will move through the southeast, and a broad
area of low pressure will develop along with it. Southwesterly
flow aloft and at the surface will strengthen as this feature
approaches to our north, and this system will bring just a slight
chance for showers or a few rumbles of thunder to southeast
georgia late Thursday night. These low chances will continue into
Friday as the trailing front moves into north central florida, but
models do continue drying this feature out for the most part as
it moves through our area. High temperatures each day will remain
in the upper 70s to low 80s, with overnight lows in the upper 50s
(low 60s at the beaches). Another shortwave trough digs southward
late Friday night, but isn't expected to affect sensible weather
much other than if the timing of the front is a bit slower than
forecast.

Long term (Saturday through Wednesday)
Northwest flow will continue across the area on Saturday, with
mainly clear skies and high temperatures in the low 80s. High
pressure across the eastern great lakes will build southward and
upper level ridge will start building to the west across the
mississippi river valley, though it looks much weaker than
previous runs. Sunday high temperatures will be in the low to mid
80s with atlantic seabreeze developing. Onshore flow will become
more pronounced on Monday and continues through Wednesday as high
pressure strengthens and remains centered across the carolinas and
mid-atlantic states.

Aviation
Clouds increasing from the NW will result in ceilings 5-8 kft
early this morning. Scattered to broken clouds expected today with
vfr conditions expected to continue. Westerly winds will be 10 to
15 knots today.

Marine
Offshore flow will continue the next few days with wind
speeds and sea heights expected to mostly remain below headline
criteria. The exception will be Thursday night when scec conditions
will be possible offshore due to a cold frontal passage.

Rip currents: low risk today and Thursday.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
