discussion...

wx map shows 1036mb cold sfc high over ok mo il this morning, with
strong cold air advection continuing over the gulf states. Winds
have diminished a bit inland to 5-10 mph north of i-10, remain
10-15 mph along and south of i-10 to the coast, and stronger
offshore. Radar showed weak echos earlier this morning with a few
reports of snow flurries late last evening over c la. Echos have
greatly weakened, with only weak returns between poe and aex. The
cloud cover and continued winds have diminished the threat of a
freeze over c and S la, but still possible over vernon beauregard
parishes, and the inland counties of SE tx north of i-10. Thus
made slight adjustments to the freeze warning for this morning.

For today, expect the clouds to gradually clear from west to east
later this morning into the afternoon, with high temperatures in
the upper 40s across SE tx W la and holding in the mid 40s across
c and sc la where it will be fairly late in the afternoon for the
clearing skies.

With the clear skies and cold dome of high pressure settling over
the region tonight, expect the first significant freeze of the
season over most of the area except the immediate coast Thursday
morning. For this, have issued the freeze warning for the entire
area, as northern portions of the coastal parishes and counties
will likely reach 31-32 by daybreak, and 28-30 along and north
of the i-10 corridor.

As the high settles over the region for most of Thursday, expect
only light winds and slightly warmer temperatures with highs
reaching the mid 50s. With the high weakening, Friday morning low
expected in the mid to upper 30s over SE tx S la, and lower 30s
with perhaps a light freeze over c la.

Slow warming trend expected for Friday and Saturday with the
surface high only moving east. Another weaker cold front expected
late Sunday into early Monday, bringing slightly cooler
conditions. Slight chance of showers expected Monday-Tuesday with
weak lift from the next approaching upper level disturbance.

a cold high pressure system over the southern plains will
continue to build into the coastal waters with strong and gusty
northerly winds this morning. With 20-22 knot winds expected to
remain a few hours longer this afternoon, have extended the small
craft advisory across the 20-60nm zones. Winds will gradually
weaken later this morning and afternoon as the center of the high
advances closer to the region. Return flow is expected by late
Friday into the weekend.
