area forecast discussion
national weather service tallahassee fl
253 am edt Thu sep 20 2018

Near term [through today]
Deep layer ridging will be in place across the southeast while an
upper low will retrograde across the eastern and central gulf.

Between these two features, deep layer wind flow will be from the
east to east southeast. Decent moisture will extend up to around
600mb with dry air above that and deep layer ridging acting to
suppress convection. However, isolated showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop along the seabreeze with the best coverage
across the florida panhandle stretching into southeast alabama where
40 pops were retained. Another hot day is in store with highs in the
mid 90s and heat indices approaching 100 degrees.

Short term [tonight through Saturday]
In the upper levels a ridge will be over the southeast. Tomorrow
night and Saturday a weak trough will be over the eastern gulf. At
the surface high pressure will be over the southeast with a weak
pressure gradient over the region. Low level flow will be easterly
or southeasterly. The best chance for showers and thunderstorms will
be near the coast on tonight and tomorrow morning. Otherwise pops
will be fairly low at 10 to 30 percent tomorrow and Saturday
afternoons. Lows will be in the lower 70s. Highs will be in the
lower 90s tomorrow and near 90 on Saturday.

Long term [Saturday night through Thursday]
In the upper levels a ridge will be over the southeast until a
trough moves in late next week. At the surface high pressure will be
over new england and a weak pressure gradient will be over the
southeast. A cold front will approach the region late next week.

Pops will be higher next week as deep layer moisture increases. Pops
around 30 to 60 percent expected in the afternoon evening hours.

Highs will be near 90 or in the lower 90s. Lows will be in the lower
70s.

Aviation [through 06z Friday]
Vfr will continue through this TAF cycle. Deep layer ridging will be
in place which will suppress convection activity today. Isolated
coverage will occur but confidence too low at this time to place in
tafs and will metwatch for any needed amendments.&&

Marine
Light northeasterly winds will become southeasterly this afternoon.

Light to moderate easterly winds are expected tonight through the
weekend. Seas will be 2 feet or less.

Fire weather
No red flag conditions are expected over the next several days.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected each afternoon.

Hydrology
Most local rivers are steady or falling. Most local rivers remain
well below action stage. Rainfall totals around one inch or less
expected over the next week.

Spotter information statement
Spotter activation is not requested. However, spotters are always
encouraged to safely report significant weather conditions when they

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
