GMZ300 Synopsis For High Island To The Matagorda Ship Channel Out 60 Nautical Miles Including Galveston And Matagorda Bays 345 Pm Cst Mon Jan 22 2018
Synopsis for high island to matagorda ship channel out 60 nm.. As high pressure moves in from the west...northerlies will weaken and slightly veer to the east by mid week. A mid to late week east to west pressure gradient will set up over the western gulf. This will generate a more moderate easterly fetch that will pull in a higher period swell. A western gulf low or disturbance will keep rain chances high on Saturday. Deeper offshore gulf moisture moving across cooler shelf waters ahead of a weekend front will increase late week sea fog probabilities.

Long term
Sunny skies have allowed for 3 pm cst temperatures to warm into
the mid and upper 60s this afternoon, with drier air filtering
into the area resulting in relative humidities in the 20-30
percent range this afternoon. Elevated fire weather conditions
will continue through sunset before diminishing as surface ridging
spreads farther west from the texas caprock. Clear and dry
conditions tonight will promote good to excellent conditions for
radiational cooling, allowing overnight lows to fall into the mid
30s to lower 40s. A few locations may briefly reach freezing
around sunrise. After a cool start, temperatures will warm into
the low to mid 60s on Tuesday under mostly sunny to partly cloudy
skies. Dry conditions are expected again tomorrow but lighter
winds should preclude the elevated fire weather threat continuing
into Tuesday.

Surface ridging will maintain its influence over the region
Wednesday into Thursday, before being nudged eastward ahead of a
mid-level disturbance from the pacific. Expect this disturbance to
have little impact on the region, save for allowing gulf moisture
and clouds to return Thursday into Friday morning. Temperatures
should remain fairly steady through the end of the work week with
highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s and lows in the mid 30s to mid
40s. Returning moisture will result in a few streamer showers
spreading across the region Thursday night into Friday and
continuing into the weekend as a surface trough or low develops in
the western gulf of mexico. Expect best rain chances to exist
this weekend in the vicinity of this feature and have adjusted
rain chances across the coastal waters to reflect this.

A cold front is expected to arrive late this weekend (sometime
late Saturday or Sunday), bringing another brief window for a few
showers before pushing moisture off the coast. Dry and mild
conditions are expected to settle into the region behind this
front.

Marine
As high pressure moves in from the west and weakens the offshore
pressure gradient tonight, far offshore gulf winds will lower to
below small craft exercise caution criteria. Other than a slight
early Tuesday morning strengthening back to caution, weaker
northeasterly winds will veer to the east and increase back up to
caution once again going into Wednesday. High pressure ridging
over the southeastern u.S., in relation to lower bay of campeche
pressure, will set up a fairly tight east-to-west fetch across our
local gulf waters from Wednesday through Friday. This will create
a longer period swell with average wave heights ranging from
around 3 feet to as high as far offshore 6 foot heights. A western
gulf disturbance on Saturday will likely increase rain chances
and keep east-southeast winds moderate. The next cold front will
travel across the maritime late Saturday into early Sunday and
hoist nearshore caution and offshore advisory flags. 31

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
