Update A few showers are along the coast this morning and
additional showers and storms are expected this afternoon, but
mainly over lower acadiana. This is in line with the previous
forecast and only a minor tweak to increase rain chances this
morning over lower jefferson county and western cameron parish
was needed. The remainder of the forecast remains untouched for
now.

satellite imagery and observations indicate clear to partly cloudy
skies acrs the area. Klch radar shows a few shra developing over
coastal areas, especially acrs SE tx and S cntl la, and vcsh was
inserted this morning at bpt and ara. Isolated to scattered
shra tsra to develop by early aftn, so carried vcts at all sites
with tempo groups at ara lft during the aftn hours where coverage
is expected to be greatest. Convection should end around sunset.

Vfr should prevail through the period while light winds become
south to southwest 5-10 kt during the day.

synopsis...

surface analysis shows a high pressure system centered over the
western atlantic east of florida ridging across the northern gulf
of mexico and into the forecast area. This is allowing for low
level southerly flow and with that, low level moisture and muggy
conditions with dew points in the low to mid 70s. Overall
atmospheric moisture profiles are on the elevated side with pwat
nearing 2 inches and mean rh nearing 70 percent. Upper air
analysis shows a slight break in the sub-tropical ridge across the
forecast area. With decent moisture and not much ridging aloft,
typical summertime nocturnal showers are noted over the coastal
waters, mainly east of cameron.

Rua
discussion...

not much change is noted in the weather pattern over the weekend
for the forecast area. Good low level southerly flow will continue
to allow for elevated moisture values over the forecast area. With
a relative weakness aloft, daytime heating should initiate pop-up
showers and thunderstorms, with the best chance over eastern
sections where moisture values are slightly higher. Away from the
convection, muggy and hot conditions will persist with afternoon
heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees.

Early next week, a short wave will move down from the upper
rockies and deepen over the middle plains and as it moves eastward
help to sharpen a east coast trough. The deepening northwest flow
aloft will help push a surface "cold" front into the region on
Monday, then into the forecast area on Tuesday, before it slowly
reaches the coast on Wednesday. Ahead of the front, rain chances
will increase as lift with the front works with the abundant gulf
moisture in place to allow for numerous showers and a few
thunderstorms to develop.

Still some question to how far south the front can get, but at
this point, it does look like it will bring slightly drier air for
Wednesday into Thursday.

Rua
marine...

a surface high off the east coast of florida will ridge across the
northern gulf of mexico and into the coastal waters through the
weekend into early next week. Therefore, mainly light onshore flow
will persist through the weekend. Winds may increase slightly
early next week as a front nears the coastal waters. Scattered
showers and a few thunderstorms will continue through the weekend
with ample moisture in place. The chances for showers and
thunderstorms will increase early next week as the front
approaches.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
