Marine Weather and Tides
Violet, LA

Version 3.4
What's New / NOTES
5/20/2018 -- NOAA is having problems with the data feed that I use to draw the graphs. They are aware of the issue and working to resolve it. Sometimes changing the location by about a mile will give a correct graph. 3/3/2018 - There is a new GOES Satellite for the east coast that required rewriting that part of the code. Please report any issues.

area forecast discussion
national weather service new orleans la

Short term
A heat advisory will be issued with this pack today. Winds will
begin to ease today causing less ventilation of the column. This
will help temperatures and moisture become more compounded today
and Monday. Currently temperatures are in the upper 70s to the mid
80s in the advisory area at 0330. Gpt and boothville are showing
85 this morning. Concerns for not reaching full 108 to 110 index
readings will be cbrz and a few thunderstorms developing. This
should begin to occur between 2 and 4pm today. So timing and
placement of any thunderstorm activity will keep temps cooler in
those places lucky enough to get the cloud cover or the rain. The
cbrz would also help by bringing some breezy conditions to cool
temps a bit but it may not pass most locations before MAX heating
is achieved.

It is always advised during the summer to check automobiles that
are not running, especially enclosed, for any people or animals.

Estimated temperatures can soar in vehicles in direct sunlight to
120f within 15 minutes and as high as 140 within an hour. These
numbers are associated with the conditions that our area will
experience today and possibly again on Monday.

For those that get that isolated shower or ts, it will be a
welcome relief but for most, the heat looks to stay around through
at least Thursday. Some deeper moisture looks to move into the
area possibly starting Friday through the weekend. This will help
bring some cloudiness and sh TS to the area bringing the high
temps down to somewhat more comfortable levels. The rain will be
welcomed by that time as well.

Aviation
Expect some MVFR conditions this morning before improving to
vfr conditions shortly after sunrise. There will be a slight
chance of some afternoon convection once the seabreeze kicks
in this afternoon but the certainty of the exact location of
showers or storms is not high. Have not included storms in
the current tafs this will have to be watched especially for
the 18z tafs. 13 mh

Marine
Fairly clam conditions are expected in the coastal waters
through most of the week as high pressure builds into the
area. There will be a slight chance each day for a stray shower
or thunderstorm but organized convection is low for the better part
of this week. 13 mh

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
