area forecast discussion
national weather service jacksonville fl
935 am edt Sat jun 24 2017

Update Sfc analysis shows the high pres ridge across central fl
area and wern atlc with a light west to southwest sfc flow. Low
stratus and fog over inland SE ga and suwannee valley dissipated
around 9 am. Mid level ridge east of NE fl has moved southward since
yesterday as a shortwave trough dips southeastward into al and ga.

Mid levels of the airmass are warmer and drier than yesterday but
low levels remain moist. Thus we should see plenty of cumulus
development today. Like yesterday's model guidance... Two main areas
that will be the focus for scattered deep convection. One with the
west coast sea breeze low level convergence over the south southwest
zones, and another with pre-frontal trough across SE ga as mostly
depicted by nam. Main change for the this update will be to drag
some low pops a little further northward along the east coast in
respect to the hrrr's consistency. Also will delay convection over
the southwest zones per latest trends. Given the warm temps aloft
(500mb at -3.7c, 700mb at 11c) and subsidence... Convection will tend
to be on the tame side, though a little stronger updraft potential
over SE ga late aftn evening where slightly cooler temps aloft and
moisture move in ahead of the shortwave. Otherwise... Looking for
highs in the lower to mid 90s... Probably also at area beaches due to
deeper southwest-west low level flow. Heat indices 100-105.

Aviation
Vfr conditions will prevail next 24 hrs. Scattered to locally broken
ceilings around 2500-3500 feet possible this morning as cumulus
develop... Then rising to 3500-5000 ft this aftn. A very low chance
of a shower or storm at terminals today and at this time best
chances, though still low, anticipated around gnv where vicinity is
used early this aftn. Otherwise... Will just have to monitor trends
and radar for any amendments and updates during the day due to low
confidence probabilities for convection.

Marine
South to southwest winds appear to have come down below the gusty
winds overnight and now estimated around 10-15 kt. Winds expected to
back around to the south-southeast near 15-20 kt after about 3-4 pm.

Current forecast looks on track with updates to refresh wording.

Seas are on track.

Rip currents: moderate risk due to increased onshore flow with the
seabreeze this afternoon and surf up to 1-3 ft.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
