UPDATE
Issued at 1059 AM CDT Sat May 18 2024
Rainfall is gradually moving on off to the east and south of our area. Only one Flash Flood Warning remains in effect, for northern Okaloosa and southern Covington counties, but rainfall intensity for those counties has decreased and the warning will be allowed to expire at 11 am. With at least light rains continuing through early afternoon (especially over the FL panhandle) will maintain the Flood Watch through 1 pm at this time, but will let it expire at that time.
Otherwise, the forecast for this afternoon appears to be on track, but will monitor max temps and see if we need any adjustments with that. For now still expecting mid 80s later this afternoon over interior southeast MS, and satellite imagery does show skies beginning to clear to the west, and current temps just to our west over portions of MS are warming into the upper 70s and lower 80s at this time, so may not need any adjustments.

The ongoing numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms, mainly concentrated southeast of I-65, will decrease in coverage throughout the day, but linger through much of the evening hours.
IFR to LIFR conditions will accompany the stronger storms along with strong gusty winds, heavy rainfall reducing visibilities, and frequent lightning. VFR to MVFR conditions are expected outside of the convection northwest of I-65. Patchy fog is expected to develop late tonight with widespread visibility ranging from 1 to 3 miles, but localized dense fog is possible across portions of south central Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. /22
