Discussion Updated for latest aviation discussion below.

Aviation
06z issuance... GeneralVFR conditions expected into the overnight
hours. Some localities will see visby drops to MVFR levels due to
fog, but am expecting the greatest chance to be west of the
tombigbee river, with this area seeing the most rain this
afternoon. Another round of shra tsra is expected Sunday, with
greatest chance coverage being west of the al fl state line.

near term now through Sunday ... An upper low over the
southeastern gulf will move very slowly to the west through the
period. Meanwhile, a weak front moved into northeastern portions of
the northeastern portions of the area, bringing a slightly drier
airmass. This will maintain a moisture gradient across the area with
drier air to the northeast with precipitable water values around 1.6
inches to 1.9 inches closer to the coast and across southeast
mississippi. This will lead to highest rain chances (30%) across
roughly the southern third of the area where the best deep layer
moisture will combine with the seabreeze to generate scattered
showers and thunderstorms. Outside of any relief from rain,
conditions will remain very hot and muggy. Highs will again be in
the low to mid 90s. These temps combined with dewpoints in the mid
70s will lead to heat index values of 102 to 107 degrees. Lows
tonight will remain very muggy, in the low to mid 70s inland to
upper 70s along the coast. 13
short term Sunday night through Tuesday night ... The upper low
continues to moves west into the western gulf and begins to
weaken through the short term, shifting deep-layer flow from
northerly to southeasterly and returning more widespread seasonal
moisture (pwats around 2.0 inches) to the region. With this bump
in moisture comes an uptick in shower and thunderstorm coverage,
and thus rain chances, across the area. Unfortunately, this also
means increasing cloud cover, which could present a problem for
those hoping to view the solar eclipse Monday afternoon. In terms of
temperature, expect highs to run in the low to mid 90's each
afternoon, with heat indices reaching the 100 to 105 degree range.

Lows remain in the mid 70's inland to upper 70's along the coast each
night. 49
long term Wednesday through Saturday ... As the upper low moves
off to the west, weak high pressure builds back into the central
gulf as a shortwave trough approaches the area from the northwest.

As the surface, an associated cold front pushes south through the
mid mississippi river and tennessee valleys before stalling it
somewhere across the local area. This front will serve to
increase precip chances during the latter half of the week as the
environment ahead (south) of it remains seasonally hot and humid.

At this time, have gone with a blend and maintained chance pops
areawide through the long term to reflect this general increase in
precip coverage and the overall wetter pattern. These chances may
change as the week progresses and confidence grows regarding the
timing and southern extent of the front, since these factors will
play a big role in who sees rain and when.

In terms of temperature, expect highs to continue running in the
low to mid 90's each afternoon through the period. Lows each
night will range from mid to upper 70's south of the front to low
70's north of the front. 49

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
