area forecast discussion
national weather service tallahassee fl
231 pm est Fri nov 16 2018

Near term [through tonight]
Cool airmass will remain in place tonight with surface high
pressure slowly weakening and moving towards the southern
appalachians. Light winds will remain from the north with lows in
the mid to upper 30s. There will be a possibility of light patchy
frost towards dawn in the more sheltered areas across the cwa.

Short term [Saturday through Sunday night]
Mainly zonal flow Saturday becomes southwesterly Sunday as a
shortwave trough dips into the southern plains. Surface high
pressure will continue to move northeasterly but the ridge will
hold through Sunday night. No major weather systems are expected
this period with dry weather continuing. Highs will moderate into
the mid to upper 60s each day with lows in the 40s.

Long term [Monday through Friday]
A dry cold front swings through Monday. A series of shortwave
troughs move through the southeast Tuesday through Friday. There
may be a small window for light showers with the first wave
Tuesday but the better chance, albeit low, chance for rainfall
will be Thursday into Friday. Models are in disagreement on the
track of the associated surface low through the gulf but at least
slight chances are warranted across the southern third of the
area. Seasonal temperatures will prevail through this period.

Aviation
[through 18z Saturday]
vfr through the period with light northerly winds.

Marine
Favorable marine conditions expected over the next several days
featuring moderate northerly winds and low to moderate seas. No
precipitation is expected.

Fire weather
A cool dry air mass is in place this weekend but rh values will remain high
enough to avoid red flag conditions. Low dispersions below 20 in the afternoon
are expected.

Hydrology
Little to no rainfall is expected for the next week. The chipola
and apalachicola rivers will remain in flood stage for the next
several days with several other rivers in action stage. Otherwise,
no additional flooding is expected.

Spotter information statement
Spotter activation is not requested. However, spotters are always
encouraged to safely report significant weather conditions when they
occur by calling the office or tweeting us @nwstallahassee.

The information on this web site has not been checked for accuracy. It is for entertainment purposes only and should be independently verified before using for any other reason. There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
