Synopsis
Fair with near normal temperatures today. A strong high pressure
ridge and offshore flow will bring much warmer weather Wednesday
and Thursday. Weak troughing will bring cooling and a return of
marine layer clouds Friday into the weekend. A pacific storm
could bring much cooler and wet weather for christmas.

Discussion For extreme southwestern california including orange...

san diego... Western riverside and southwestern san bernardino
counties...

scattered high clouds continue to move south over so cal this
afternoon. There were some cumulus clouds forming along the sea
breeze front earlier, but they have been dissipating over the past
hour or so. Winds are light across the region.

Fair and dry weather will prevail this afternoon as an upper
level ridge of high pressure begins to build in from the west. The
ridge strengthens and moves overhead Wednesday and Thursday. Weak
offshore flow develops at the surface and peaks Wednesday
morning. This will aid in warming west of the mountains, where
high temps will climb into the upper 70s, possibly a few low 80s
by Thursday. Gusty winds will be confined to the favored passes
and coastal mountain slopes, with isolated gusts of 25-30 mph
Wednesday morning, weakening into Thursday.

The ridge weakens and shifts east Friday into the weekend with a
pair of weak short wave troughs passing through california. This
will bring cooler weather with high temps near to slightly above
seasonal averages. Marine layer low clouds should return to the
coastal areas by Friday morning, gradually extending further
inland each night through the weekend.

The ec and GFS are still undecided about the evolution of a pair
of lows early next week. The 12z ec has trended towards the gfs
with the first wave late Sunday into Monday, keeping it well north
and leaving us dry. The solutions have converged a bit from the
00z runs in terms of the christmas day system. While the initial
track is generally the same, the GFS and canadian move the low
through much faster, giving us a quick shot of light precip,
while the ec is slow and much wetter. Will have to continue to
monitor the trends, but at this point it looks like the mountain
communities may be able to enjoy a white christmas, even if it
ends up being just a few flurries. It looks like an active pattern
will stick around for the few days following christmas, with
another storm possible by the end of the work week.

Aviation
182100z... Coast valleys... Mostly clear skies with some high clouds
aoa 25000 ft to continue through tonight. Patchy sct-bkn low clouds
possible after 06z at coastal TAF sites, but confidence is low that
clouds will reach the coast. Any low clouds that develop should
scatter out 12-13z Wednesday.

Marine
A large long-period swell from the wnw will continue this afternoon
and evening. It will generate combined seas of 10-13 feet in the
outer coastal waters, creating hazardous sea conditions near shoals.

The inner waters could have some hazardous conditions near jetties
and the entrance to mission bay. Swell and seas will subside late
today and Wednesday. The small craft advisory for hazardous seas is
in effect for all coastal waters through 10 pm tonight.

Beaches
High surf of 5-8 ft in orange county and 7-10 ft in san diego county
will continue this afternoon and gradually decrease starting this
evening. A high surf advisory remains in effect through 10 pm
tonight. Swell and surf will subside tonight and Wednesday.

Sgx watches warnings advisories
Ca... High surf advisory until 10 pm pst this evening for orange
county coastal areas-san diego county coastal areas.

Pz... Small craft advisory for hazardous seas until 10 pm pst this
evening for coastal waters from san mateo point to the
mexican border and out to 30 nm-waters from san mateo point
to the mexican border extending 30 to 60 nm out including

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
