Synopsis 19 1034 am.

The temperatures will hover around normal into next week. Thursday
to Saturday a warm up will occur in offshore flow and as a high
builds in. Fair skies are forecast into next week, except for an
patchy overnight coastal marine layer. A low may approach next
week to cool temperatures and increase cloudiness.

Short term (tdy-fri) 19 945 am.

A trough is moving through the west coast today and that will
bring a reinforcing shot of northerly flow tonight into Thursday.

For today temps are expected to trend a little warmer up north as
heights start rising behind the trough but either little change or
slightly cooler in the south. Expecting one last night of
sundowner winds which will transition to northeast winds and
include parts of ventura and la counties by early Thursday. This
should keep most of the stratus away from the coast with the
possible exception of coastal la county.

***from previous discussion***
sunny skies Thursday and weak offshore flow (a few morning canyon
breezes in the 10-20 mph range in the la vta vlys) will allow for
3 to 6 degrees of warming across the area and MAX temps will
mostly be 2 to 4 degrees above normal.

Weak and dry westerly sets up over the area Friday. A weak eddy
and onshore trends will bring some low clouds back to the la
coastal area. The central coast will still have a little offshore
flow in the morning and low clouds there will be kept to a
minimum. The stronger onshore flow will cool the coasts and vlys
some but the interior temps will remain largely unchanged.

Long term (sat-tue) 19 309 am.

The ec and GFS are in basic agreement for the xtnd period. Both
agree that the flow pattern will change from zonal to anti
cyclonic. Neither mdl indicates much day to day change with the
h5 hgts which will be near 588 dm. There will be weak to moderate
onshore flow through the period which will bring low clouds and
fog to the coasts but the relatively high hgts should keep the
marine layer shallow enough to keep the clouds out of the vlys.

Max temps will change little through the period and will be be 3
to 6 degrees above normal inland and near normal at the beaches.

Aviation 19 1826z.

At 1702z, the marine layer depth at klax was 900 feet. The top of
the inversion was 2100 feet with a temperature of 20 degrees
celsius.

Good confidence in the 18z tafs.VFR conditions anticipated this
afternoon through Thursday morning for all sites, except the la
coast. There is a 50 percent chance of ifr ceilings for klax klgb
and ksmo.

Klax... Moderate confidence in 18z taf. There is a 50% chance that
cig vsby restrictions will not develop tonight.

Kbur... High confidence in 18z TAF asVFR conditions are
anticipated through the period.

Marine 19 939 am.

For the outer waters, high confidence in current forecast. Small
craft advisory (sca) level winds will continue through tonight.

Conditions are expected to remain below SCA levels Thursday
through Saturday. On Sunday, there is a 60% chance of SCA level
winds developing.

For the inner waters north of point sal, high confidence in
current forecast. There is a 70% chance of SCA level winds this
afternoon and evening. For Thursday through Sunday, conditions
are anticipated to remain below SCA levels.

For the inner waters south of point conception, moderate to high
confidence in current forecast. There is a 60% chance of SCA level
winds late this afternoon through tonight across the western half
of the santa barbara channel. Otherwise, conditions are expected
to remain below SCA levels through Sunday.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
