UPDATE
Air Quality Section Updated.

KEY MESSAGES
1. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Mojave Desert Slopes valid from 4 PM this afternoon through 5 AM Wednesday morning.

2. High temperatures will change little through Wednesday, remaining around climatological averages for this time of year.

3. Warming conditions are forecast late in the week with highs around 5 to 10 degrees above normal on Friday. Probabilities of exceedance for 85 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley are around 50%.

4. Ensemble guidance is trending towards a weekend system bringing snowfall to the central Sierra Nevada and periods of rainfall to the San Joaquin Valley.

DISCUSSION
Breezy conditions continue today, especially through the wind- prone locations of Kern County. A Wind Advisory will be in effect starting at 4 PM this afternoon lasting through early Wednesday morning when onshore gradients are forecast to weaken slightly. There will also be warming temperatures associated with the modest decline in winds. This is due to shortwave high pressure aloft developing over the region Thursday and Friday.
Dry conditions with above average temperatures are forecast through Friday. NBM probabilities are generally showing around a 50% chance of most locations in the San Joaquin Valley seeing highs of at least 85*F on Friday afternoon.

The pattern is forecast to change this weekend. Ensemble guidance continues to show a trough of low pressure dropping into California Saturday afternoon, bringing cooler and wet conditions. Valley rain and mountain snow is forecast to continue Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon. Snow levels are projected to be around 8,000 feet at the start of the event on Saturday before dropping to around 6,000 feet Sunday morning.
The upper low is forecast to begin exiting the region on Sunday night/Monday morning. As the upper low exits, a revamp of strong winds in the Kern Mountains and Desert is forecast on Monday. A modest warming trend is forecast thereafter.

AVIATION
Strong wind gusts 40 kts to near 50 kts are possible along the Mojave Desert Slopes from 23Z Tuesday thru 12Z Wednesday.
Otherwise, VFR conditions will prevail across central California for at least the next 24 hours.
