DISCUSSION
Broad cyclonic flow aloft will prevail today and tonight.
Strong, gusty northwest winds in the Mojave Desert Slopes this morning will become more intense this afternoon. There is an 86 percent chance of wind gusts of 58 mph or higher at Mojave this evening. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Mojave Desert slopes until 2 PM PDT this afternoon. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Mojave Desert Slopes from 2 PM PDT this afternoon until 2 AM PDT early Wednesday morning.

An upper-level area of low pressure over the North Central United States will retrograde westward Wednesday. This cyclone aloft will settle over the Great Basin Thursday. The upper-level area of low pressure will meander around the vicinity of Central California Friday and Saturday, before progressing eastward Sunday and Monday. Although thunderstorm probabilities are not very high (less than 15 percent) in the Sierra Nevada each afternoon Friday through Sunday, there may be just enough atmospheric moisture available for a stray thunderstorm to develop, especially along the crest.
