Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Nashville TN 618 AM CDT Sun May 19 2024
New AVIATION
SHORT TERM
(Today through Monday)
Issued at 116 AM CDT Sun May 19 2024
Skies are gradually clearing across the area this morning and patchy fog is developing again. Dense fog has been spotty and short lived so far, but areas near rivers and lakes may have limited visibilities through around sunrise. If it becomes more widespread, a dense fog advisory may be needed.
With rain well to our east and plenty of sunshine in the forecast today, we should warm into the 80s across the area. Weak ridging will keep afternoon highs warming a couple of degrees each day, pushing temperatures into the mid to upper 80s by Monday afternoon.
LONG TERM
(Monday Night through next Sunday)
Issued at 116 AM CDT Sun May 19 2024
Dry weather and warming temperatures will continue into Tuesday, when the Nashville metro area might flirt with 90 degrees. The aforementioned upper ridging will begin to break down Tuesday night, giving way to rain and storm chances on Wednesday.
Southerly flow will increase ahead of this next system, so we'll stay warm and humid as rain moves in on Wednesday. As it's supporting low pressure system races off to the north, this front is expected to linger over Middle TN Thursday and Friday providing a focus for showers and storms during the daytime hours. Ample cloud cover will keep temperatures a few degrees cooler on those afternoons. Toward the end of the work week, models show a shortwave moving in and finally pushing showers to our east. Any break in the rain will likely be short-lived as another broad upper trough brings more showers and storms next weekend.
AVIATION
