Synopsis Sunny and warm with a only a few degrees of cooling
through the weekend. More noted cooling to return early next week
as fronts pass to our north with increasing onshore flow and a
cooling airmass. Any light rain from these fronts will likely
stay north of sonoma county next week while high pressure builds
over southern and central california by the second half.

Discussion As of 1:52 pm pdt Friday... The combination of
building high pressure, sunny skies and light offshore flow
inland has resulted warmer temperatures across the board this
afternoon. Current temperatures are ranging from the mid 60s at
the coast to the mid to upper 70s around the bays, with 80s well
inland. Current readings are from 3 to 11 degrees warmer than they
were yesterday at this time. Surface pressure gradients are
trending stronger offshore with wmc to sfo now 6.9 mb, and sfo to
sac now -0.2 mb.

The upper level high pressure ridge over california will maintain
warm conditions through Saturday with a gradual cooling trend
beginning on Sunday and persisting through midweek as low
pressure systems move across the pacific northwest. Latest model
guidance keeps all rain chances north of our CWA through the
forecast period, though.

Another ridge is forecast to approach california from the eastern
pacific late in the week ushering in another warming trend by next
weekend. The latest run of the ECMWF hints at another upper
trough possibly affecting northern california by the end of the
month... We'll see, although climatologically, this timing checks
out.

Aviation As of 04:20 pm pdt Friday... For 00z tafs. A
compressed marine layer has led to mainly clear skies across the
region with some stratus offshore.VFR conditions expected through
the period aside from some possible patchy low clouds along the
coast. Patchy fog possible again early tomorrow morning in the
north bay.

Vicinity of ksfo...VFR with some patchy low clouds possible early
tomorrow morning.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals...VFR. Patchy low stratus ceilings may
return into tomorrow morning.

Marine As of 02:28 pm pdt Friday... High pressure over the
great basin and the eastern pacific will weaken through the
weekend and early next week. Generally winds will be light to
locally breezy northwesterly and swell moderate period mixed
northwesterly and southwesterly.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
