Synopsis Night and morning low clouds will continue into the
upcoming weekend. A gradual cooling trend will continue through
the weekend as well. A weak disturbance passing through southern
california will bring clouds and possibly an isolated shower south
of monterey this late this weekend. Otherwise, dry weather through
the forecast period.

Discussion As of 01:18 pm pdt Thursday... Despite ample
sunshine away from the coast today the cooldown is well under way.

The latest 24 hour trend has many locations running 8 to 10
degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. One of the reasons for
this is increased onshore flow and a solid marine layer that
developed. Afternoon visible satellite clearly shows a solid
marine layer (coastal clouds) stretching from socal to well north
of point arena. Other interesting tidbit noticed on the satellite
are fair weather CU popping over the interior mountains like the
southern gabilan range. Not expecting any further development,
but towering CU will be likely. Did lower some coastal
temperatures for the rest of the day due to the cloud cover along
the coast.

Marine layer will move inland again and deepen slightly overnight.

Similar to this morning patchy fog will also be possible along
the coast. The cooling trend noticed today will continue tomorrow,
but only another few degrees. Despite the cooler temperatures high
temperatures across the interior Friday Saturday will still be
above normal for late april.

Lower confidence continues for the end of the weekend and early
next week. Evolving longwave pattern continues to advertise a cut
off low sweeping through socal late Sunday into Monday. An
isolated shower is possible over the higher terrain south of
monterey, but more likely over the sierra and farther south. The
upper low further cool daytime temps into early next week.

Aviation As of 10:32 am pdt Thursday... For 18z tafs. A
weakened northerly gradient allowed stratus to develop overnight
and spread along the coast this morning. Stratus over the monterey
bay sites has dissipated leaving mainly clear skies across the
region. Stratus remains offshore and hugging the immediate
coastline late this morning as the marine layer sits at around
1000 ft agl.VFR conditions to prevail into this evening. Models
are split on timing for stratus to return this evening. For now,
expecting coastal TAF sites to see MVFR to ifr conditions
overnight and tomorrow morning, but confidence is low on timing.

Uncertainty remains as to how far inland stratus will spread
overnight and how long it will hang around. Patchy fog possible in
the north bay overnight. Generally light winds through the period
becoming onshore at 10-15 kt this afternoon.

Vicinity of ksfo...VFR into this evening with low clouds to the
west of the terminal. Models are split on stratus moving into the
airport overnight. Borderline MVFR ifr CIGS will be possible late
tonight and through tomorrow morning. Confidence low on cigs
overnight. W to NW winds 10-15 kt diminishing overnight.

Sfo bridge approach... Same as ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals...VFR through this evening with an early
return of stratus expected. Ifr conditions overnight and tomorrow
morning. Generally light winds through the period.

Marine As of 08:08 am pdt Thursday... Generally light to
moderate northerly winds will continue through much of the week
across the coastal waters. High pressure off the coast of the
pacific northwest will create locally stronger winds over the
northern waters through Friday night. As the high shifts westward
over the weekend, the strongest winds will become confined to the
northern outer waters. Light to moderate northwest swell will
persist through the forecast period.

I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
