Synopsis After a relatively cooler day today, offshore winds
will develop late tonight and during the day on Friday, bringing a
gradual warming trend to the region that will last through the
weekend. Gusty north to northeast winds are possible across the
north bay hills tonight and again tomorrow night. Cooler
conditions will return for the work week.

Discussion As of 2:00 pm pdt Thursday... Water vapor imagery
continues to show a trough of low pressure digging south across
the intermountain west and great basin this afternoon. Northern
california really remains on the dry side of the system, but
cooler conditions are prevailing across the region today. At this
time, more places are running 3 to 8 degrees cooler, with areas
trapped beneath the stratus are seeing the greatest cooling, such
as monterey and watsonville. This will make for a very pleasant
evening and a cool overnight conditions. Believe the immediate
coastal areas could see some drizzle again tonight, especially in
the vicinity of the monterey bay. Otherwise, the main story for
the night will be the developing offshore gradient across the
north bay hills. Models are showing that the 925 and 850 mb winds
ranging between 20 and 30 knots. At this time, think the ridge
tops could see some gusty conditions, but these gusty conditions
will remain below advisory criteria and be limited to the higher
elevations of napa, sonoma, and marin counties.

As high pressure will slowly begin to build back over the region
on Friday and for the weekend. As a result, a gradual warming
trend will develop across the region. Although the northerly winds
will weaken a bit for Friday, gusty winds will redevelop for
Friday night. Another trough will then dig along the pacific
northwest for the first part of next week, and remain in place
through at least the middle of next week. This will bring the
return of a deeper marine layer and cooler temperatures once
again. Palmer

is occuring across all bay area terminals. Low clouds persist over
kmry and ksns with clearing expected by 19z-20z this afternoon.

to 20 kt with gusts to 25 kt in the afternoon.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

this afternoon. Light winds will continue through the morning
with winds strengthening in the afternoon with the onset of the

Marine As of 8:34 am pdt Thursday... Light southerly winds will
persist along the coast south of point reyes through midday today
then gradually veer to the northwest in the late afternoon.

Strong gale force winds across the northern outer waters are
forecast to spread farther south late this afternoon prompting
gale warnings over the outer waters to expand in coverage.

Stronger winds are forecast across all coastal waters this evening
into Friday. These winds will result in steep fresh swell
creating hazardous seas conditions, especially for smaller
vessels.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
