Synopsis Continued seasonably cool and breezy through midweek
with a slight chance of showers late Tuesday night into Wednesday
as an upper trough moves through. A drying and warming trend
Thursday into next weekend.

Discussion As of 2:01 pm pdt Monday... Low clouds were slow to
clear this morning and now some high clouds continue to filter
overhead while marine clouds persist from san francisco to
monterey. This has kept memorial day temperatures on the cool side
of normal so far but with filtered sunshine expect a few more
degrees of warming this afternoon. Onshore gradient remains
moderate around 3 mb with 21 mph winds observed at the golden
gate.

Synoptic pattern features an upper trough that will keep moderate
onshore winds in place overnight into Tuesday with low clouds
expected to reform and surge inland overnight.

Not expecting big changes for Tuesday but the stage will be set
for another breezy day around the bay. NAM 925 mb winds will
increase through the afternoon and evening hours in response to
the incoming trough. Will be expecting some morning drizzle with
this pattern on Tuesday morning followed by gusty westerly winds
through the afternoon evening hours.

Have kept slight chance of showers in the forecast late Tuesday
night into weds as trough axis passes through. Not expecting
anything more than some hit or miss showers.

The pattern will begin to transition by weds night and expect
modest warming and drying Thursday and into next weekend as high
pressure rebuilds. Surface gradients look to remain moderate so
expect breezy afternoons as we finish may and head into june.

Aviation 4:49 pm pdt Monday for 00z tafs... While most of the
stratus has scattered out across the region this afternoon a
couple of stubborn patches of stratus have maintained borderline
MVFR ifr CIGS over the monterey and san francisco bay terminals.

Partial temporary breaks in the clouds are possible this
afternoon evening however these terminals will likely fill back
in early this evening. Elsewhere stratus is forecast to return
around 05z-06z tonight. Moderate and locally gusty onshore flow
will persist through this evening then gradually diminish
overnight. Tuesday will likely be a repeat of today with regard to
cigs with some locations only seeing partial clearing if any.

Moderate confidence.

Vicinity of ksfo... MVFR CIGS will prevail through late tonight
with CIGS dropping to ifr after 10z Tuesday morning. CIGS are
anticipated to lift to MVFR after 19z Tuesday however only
partial or temporary clearing is expected if any. Moderate to
locally strong and gusty westerly winds will persist through this
evening then diminish slightly overnight to around 10 to 15 kt
sustained.

Sfo bridge approach... A line of clouds around 1200 feet stretched
out across the bay from ksfo to koak will prevail through this
evening then gradually fill in across the bay overnight. Clouds
over the approach are anticipated to scatter out around 21z
Tuesday afternoon.

Monterey bay terminals... MVFR CIGS will quickly drop to ifr after
02z-03z this evening. CIGS over kmry will likely drop to lifr
around 400 ft after 10z tonight. CIGS over kmry are anticipated
to lift to MVFR after 18z Tuesday however only partial or
temporary clearing is expected if any. CIGS over ksns will scatter
out around 19z. Moderate westerly winds will persist through this
evening then gradually diminish overnight.

Marine As of 2:26 pm pdt Monday... Strong and gusty northerly
winds will generate steep wind waves and fresh swell... Making for
adverse and hazardous seas through at least Tuesday night for the
coastal waters. Winds are forecast to decrease Wednesday as a
weak front moves through the area and the surface pressure
gradient weakens.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
