Synopsis Seasonably warm conditions during the day with patchy
coastal clouds at night will continue the rest of the week and
into the weekend. The forecast remains dry through the middle of
next week. Cooler weather returns next week.

Discussion As of 02:50 am pdt Wednesday... Offshore flow
continues to weaken (sfo-wmc gradient down another 4mb) as
onshore flow increase. Overnight GOES east satellite fog product
shows a summer type set up with coastal low clouds pushing locally
inland. Automated stations puts cloud heights at only a few
hundred feet with patchy dense fog. Therefore, added some patchy
dense fog around monterey bay, san mateo coast and santa rosa
vicinity. Expect clearing back to the coast by mid-morning with
sunny skies this afternoon. Similar to yesterday morning, it will
be chilly with a few interior pockets dipping into the upper 30s.

The longwave pattern aloft will gradually evolve over the next few
days and moreso next week. Currently the upper low over northern
arizona will continue to drift to the NE as ridging builds across
the pac nw. By Friday, high pressure aloft becomes established
over or as low pressure develops over socal as a weak rex block
into the weekend. So what does this mean for the bay area? Mild
daytime temperatures with cool overnight temperatures. Night and
morning low clouds will be possible along the coast and locally
inland. Conf is low on extent of clouds as some weak offshore flow
remains. Above the cloud deck, dry conditions will remain over the
hills keeping fire weather concerns heightened.

The 00z model suite continues to advertise another pattern shift
next week. The blocking pattern is short lived as an upper level
trough moves into the west coast. Confidence on precip chances
continues to remain low, but one thing that is more certain is
widespread cooling. Current forecast will bring temperatures down
by Monday with increasing clouds and a low chance for precip
across the north bay.

Aviation As of 04:45 am pdt Wednesday... Very shallow marine
stratus deck situated along the coast and just inland. Offshore
winds have cut off the inland push of stratus already in some
areas including salinas valley. Expect to see generallyVFR with
localized vlifr fog in north bay and near the coastline incl
kwvi kmry khaf. A few stray patches of 600-800 ft clouds will make
it over ksfo and koak. Winds generally light offshore this
morning and early into the afternoon. Light onshore near coast
later this afternoon and into the early evening.

Vicinity of ksfo...VFR. Brief sct posbl around sunrise. Generally
light winds with occasionally breezy onshore winds this
afternoon.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals... Vlifr into sunrise due to patchy fog at
kmry but will rapidly clear toVFR due to shallow nature of layer
by mid morning. Winds generally light, occasionally breezy onshore
during the afternoon.

Marine As of 04:45 am pdt Wednesday... Predominately light
northwest winds through the the forecast period. Locally breezy
northwest winds will develop through the usual coastal jets near
the coast. A long period northwest swell will arrive on Wednesday
bringing an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves.

Swell period will decrease Wednesday night and Thursday.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
