Marine Weather and Tides
Mill Valley, CA

Version 3.4
What's New / NOTES
5/20/2018 -- NOAA is having problems with the data feed that I use to draw the graphs. They are aware of the issue and working to resolve it. Sometimes changing the location by about a mile will give a correct graph. 3/3/2018 - There is a new GOES Satellite for the east coast that required rewriting that part of the code. Please report any issues.

area forecast discussion
national weather service san francisco bay area
753 pm pdt Sun jun 17 2018

Synopsis A low pressure trough over the west will provide
cool temperatures today, especially inland areas which are
expected to remain much cooler than normal. A warming trend is
forecast to begin on Monday and continue through much of the week
as high pressure builds over california.

Discussion As of 7:53 pm pdt Sunday... It's a fairly tranquil
evening for father's day most places having much less wind and
more in the way of clear skies. It's a bit hazy right on the coast,
inland visibilities are good. The onshore pressure gradient is
lower this evening at 1.8 mb from sfo to sac. Cool air advection
with an upper level trough has mostly mixed out the marine layer
temperature inversion, but redevelopment of the marine layer
inversion is expected to return late tonight through Monday as
lower level warming develops prior to the arrival of an eastern
pacific mid to upper level ridge on Tuesday. Warming of daytime
temperatures is forecast for this week, becoming above normal by
late week.

Aviation As of 4:59 pm pdt Sunday... For 00z tafs. Marine layer
remains disorganized and mixed out at the moment. Southerly flow
in the boundary layer should turn more westerly overnight with
inversion layer setting up around 3000 feet. Best estimate at this
time is that CIGS will form late and generally be above 2000
feet. Low CIGS should mix out around 18z Monday.

Moderate confidence.

Vicinity of ksfo... Light southerly flow this evening with mostly
clear skies. Any CIGS should form after 07z or at least by 11z.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo but any CIGS should be after
08z tonight.

Monterey bay terminals... Clear through 04z then CIGS forming
around 2000 feet should mix out around 18z Monday.

Marine As of 3:00 pm pdt Sunday... A low pressure system over
northern california will maintain southerly winds along the near
shore waters through tonight. Breezy conditions are expected
across the san francisco bay north of the golden gate through this
evening with the rest of the coastal waters seeing relatively
lighter winds.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
