Synopsis Seasonable summer pattern in place with a marine layer
along the coast leading to areas of night and morning low clouds
followed by sunny afternoons away from the coast right through the
4th of july holiday.

Discussion As of 2:02 pm pdt Wednesday... Marine layer has
compressed slightly to just under 2000 feet along the coast.

Marine clouds have been stubborn to clear from pt reyes to san
mateo as well as around the south end of monterey bay with
persistent northwest winds. Current temperatures are running
seasonably cool with only mid 70s for the inland valleys.

In general high pressure will strengthen slightly tonight into
Thursday which should compress the marine layer and weaken onshore
flow. So if anything the inland valleys should notice a slight
warming trend through the end of the work week. As the marine
layer compresses nighttime fog may be dense at times near the
coast and coastal hills with early morning drizzle associated with
the night time marine intrusions.

The next upper trough arrives around 00z Saturday, which will
likely lead to a stronger seabreeze Friday evening with a
deepening of the marine layer. Latest 18z NAM actually spits out a
few hundredths of precip by 12z Saturday morning as a result of
local drizzle associated with a deep marine layer.

850 mb temps look to stay in the 21-24 celsius range though the
weekend and into early next week. So in what will likely be a long
holiday weekend for many people it looks like dry and seasonable
pattern with perhaps slight cooling trend towards july 4th. Quiet
summer pattern overall.

Aviation As of 4:47 am pdt Wednesday... For 00z tafs. A
strengthening northerly gradient is sweeping the low clouds from
the north coast this afternoon. Low clouds are expected to fill
back in overnight but maybe a tad later than what we saw last
night. The marine layer is currently around 1600 feet with little
change expected. A slightly shallower marine layer may keep
stratus from moving in as quickly as it did last night as well.

Moderate onshore flow around 10 to 15 kt will locally higher gusts
will prevail through the evening then ease overnight.

Moderate confidence.

Vicinity of ksfo...VFR conditions expected through 04z this
evening. MVFR CIGS will then move in under the 1600 ft inversion.

Cigs will lower to ifr around 800 feet after 09z tonight. Low
clouds will scatter out around 17z-18z Thursday morning. Moderate
west winds around 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 25 kt will
continue through this evening then gradually diminish overnight.

Sfo bridge approach... Similar to ksfo.

Monterey bay terminals... MVFR CIGS will quick lower to ifr around
700 ft after 01z this afternoon then to lifr overnight. Low
clouds will scatter out around 18z-21z Thursday morning. Moderate
west winds around 10 to 15 kt will ease to around 10 kt around
01z-03z this evening then gradually diminish overnight.

Marine As of 2:51 pm pdt Wednesday... Building high pressure
off the california coast will maintain strong and gusty northerly
winds through the remainder of the week and into the upcoming
weekend. Steep wind waves and fresh swell will dominate the
coastal waters as a result of the strong winds. Persons operating
small crafts should use extra caution along the central california
coast and bays through at least the forthcoming weekend.

I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
