Synopsis Marine air and stratus filtering inland on onshore winds
will persist causing near to slightly cooler than normal temperatures
today. Somewhat warmer temperatures will develop Thursday and Friday.

Except for patchy coastal drizzle, dry weather will persist over the
next 7 days. Night and morning coastal clouds will be followed by sunny
afternoons.

Discussion As of 8:49 am pdt Wednesday... Marine layer around
2000 feet deep this morning with stratus covering most of the
valleys. Onshore gradients around 2 mb but with ridge
strengthening slightly should allow for low clouds to clear back
to the coast by late morning. Looking over the current forecast
sky and temperature grids not seeing any reason for updates. Ridge
to strengthen slightly on Thursday should compress the marine
layer closer to 1500 feet with a little less inland penetration of
stratus for Thursday morning. Temperatures will run near or
slightly below normal today and then trend a few degrees warmer
inland for Thursday. Next shortwave upper trough approaches late
Friday evening and will likely induce a strong seabreeze and
deepening of the marine layer. In general the next 7 days through
the 4th of july holiday looks seasonable for late june early july
with night and morning low clouds followed by sunny and warm
afternoons.

Prev discussion As of 3:37 am pdt Wednesday... It's a fairly typical
summer stratus and fog pattern over the bay area and north central
coast this morning. The sfo-sac pressure gradient is 2.6 mb resulting
in onshore winds carrying ocean based stratus inland this morning in
a marine layer 1500-2000 feet deep. In addition to patchy fog, patchy
light drizzle has also been reported along the immediate coastline
since late last evening.

An upper level geopotential height ridge over the eastern pacific will
gradually advance toward the area late this week. Nearly stationary
lower to mid level thermal ridging over california will tend to
merge with the height ridge steadily strengthening the height ridge
as well as marine inversions through late week, and likely compress
inversions causing more favorable conditions for fog. Diurnal
warming contrasts between land and ocean will strengthen the
afternoon and evening sea-breezes causing stratus and fog to move
inland each night and morning; patchy dense fog may become more
favorable at times, mainly night-time and morning, from late week
into this weekend.

Aviation As of 10:47 am pdt Wednesday... For 18z tafs. 2000 ft
marine layer is holding strong this morning across much of the
immediate coastline along central california. Sfo and oak barely
scattered out yesterday, due to local effects of the marine layer,
before stratus built back in early yesterday evening. Today has
the potential to be similar. However, tafs do reflect clearing
(vfr) by 1830-19z at all terminals. Will monitor accordingly.

Breezy onshore winds again this afternoon, ranging from 10 to 20
kt, with occasional gusts over 20 kt at sfo. CIGS return early
again tonight.

Moderate confidence.

Vicinity of ksfo... Borderline ifr MVFR CIGS through 18-19z, but
could potentially be later.VFR anticipated by early afternoon.

Winds 15-20 kt, with gusts around 25 kt through early evening.

MVFR to ifr CIGS set to return around 04-05z, but will ultimately
depend on when if clearing occurs this afternoon.

Sfo bridge approach... Approach will clear before terminal,
sometime around 18-1830z.

Monterey bay terminals... Satellite shows nice clearing through the
salinas valley. Sns should be clear by 18z, followed by mry by
1830-19z. Moderate and occasionally gusty westerly winds this
afternoon, 10-15 kt on average. CIGS return by early evening or
late afternoon.

Marine As of 10:31 am pdt Wednesday... Northerly winds will
continue to increase along the central coast as high pressure
builds off the coast. Gusty winds will result in hazardous sea
conditions with steep wind waves and fresh swell.

I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
