Synopsis
Dry weather through late tonight. Weather disturbance will bring
chances for rain spreading across norcal overnight through mid
week, mainly for the mountains and the sacramento valley. Chances
for rain will continue through next weekend.

Discussion (today through Wednesday)
Mostly clear skies overnight as weak upper level ridge in place
continued to bring dry conditions across the interior. Patchy fog
was developing in the valley as temperatures dropped to near the
dew point with calm winds. Temperatures ranged from the lower 40s
in the lower sacramento and san joaquin valleys to the upper 30s
in the upper sacramento valley overnight.

Low pressure trough located in the pacific will continue to move
eastward as a high pressure builds off the southern california
coast over the next several days. As a result of the atmospheric
circulation, moisture will be funneled in between the two
pressure centers and toward the pacific northwest region. The
developing atmospheric river will mainly impact oregon to the
north, but the southern fringes of the system will clip northern
california with chances for rain. Due to the position of the high
pressure to the south, the warm sector of the air mass will remain
positioned over the forecast area leading to high snow levels well
above mountain pass levels. Very little snow accumulations will
occur for the highest sierra peaks, but otherwise all
precipitation is expected to be rain and not impact holiday
travelers this week. Rainfall amounts are expected to be light for
the valley with moderate amounts possible for the northern
mountains.

Temperatures will start out near normal for the beginning of the
week, but will warm up to slightly above normal toward mid week as
warmer air is advected into northern california.

.Extended discussion (Thursday through Sunday)
precipitation chances forecast to spread south to about i-80
thanksgiving into next weekend as the upper ridge shifts a bit
east allowing moisture to move up in southwesterly flow and
interact with a weak stalled-out front over norcal. QPF looks to
be on the light side and snow levels will remain very high, so
little impact to holiday travel is expected.

Aviation
MainlyVFR conditions expected the next 24 hours except areas of
MVFR visibilities in fog in the central valley. Precipitation
spreading inland north of i-80 after 08z Monday with deteriorating
conditions. Generally light winds expected.

Sto watches warnings advisories
None.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
