national weather service sacramento ca

Synopsis
Hot and dry weather continues with locally breezy conditions.

Hotter weather for the weekend.

Discussion
Temperatures are running near what they where last night as of
9 pm. Temperatures will cool off to near this morning's lows. The
delta breeze will continue through the night before decreasing
but should be similar in strength during the day as today's flow
was through the delta. Some warming is expected on Friday with
about 1 to 2 degrees of warming for the sacramento region and up
to about 5 degrees over the north end of the valley. Mountain
areas should warm about 3 to 5 degrees.

Previous discussion
Water vapor imagery shows dry southwest flow streaming aloft
across northern california, which is bringing another warm and
sunny day. Visible imagery showed some smoke from the detwiler
fire continuing for the sierra foothills and mountains this
afternoon along and south of i-80. Temperatures across the area
ranged from 92 at redding to 75 at blue canyon.

Forecast continues to be warm and dry with little change to the
southwest flow aloft. Hotter weather returns beginning Friday and
through the weekend as the southwest high builds westward
bringing synoptic warming and suppressing the marine layer. Highs
Saturday and Sunday will likely make it into the 105-110 range
across the northern sacramento valley with overnight lows only
dropping into the lower 70s. An excessive heat watch continues for
the area.

Delta winds should keep temperatures cooler for the lower
sacramento and san joaquin valleys, but temperatures will still be
somewhat warm ranging between 5 and 10 degrees above normal this
weekend. A very remote chance for an isolated thunderstorm is
possible late Sunday afternoon evening for the sierra south of
highway 50, but confidence is low at this point.

.Extended discussion (Monday through Thursday)
upper low along the NW ca coast Monday will slowly drift inland
resulting in a gradual cooling trend through the middle of the
week. Slight chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms will be
possible over the higher terrain of the sierra nevada Monday and
Tuesday.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
