Synopsis
Mainly late-day mountain showers and thunderstorms continue thru
the week. Temperatures return to average by mid-week.

Discussion
Satellite imagery indicates the cold closed low now centered over
southern nevada with norcal seeing backwash from the north and
northeast. Radar indicates a few light showers continuing early
this morning. Current temperatures range from the 30s in the
mountains to the 50s across the central valley.

Lingering showers are expected to taper off by late this morning.

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will then redevelop
over mainly the higher terrain this afternoon, though a few could
drift down into the northern sacramento valley and foothills.

A relative minimum of activity is forecast for Tuesday as short-
wave ridging temporarily moves overhead, but weak cyclonic flow
returns Wednesday and Thursday resulting in an increase in late-
day showers and thunderstorms over the mountains.

Temperatures warm slightly today, with more significant warming
returning Tuesday. Highs are forecast to return to average by
Wednesday.

.Extended discussion (Friday through Monday)
the period spanning Friday into early next week will favor rising
temperatures along with near daily chances for mountain
thunderstorms. Initially, the synoptic configuration features a
broad upper low over the central great basin which gradually sags
southward toward southern california. Embedded shortwaves combined
with diurnal heating support daily occurrences of mountain
showers and thunderstorms, particularly through the weekend.

Looking to next week, the eastern extent of an offshore upper
ridge will skirt the region. The building heights support the
continued warming trend with perhaps the first 100 degree reading
for redding as noted in some of the guidance. After a cool may, it
appears june will start off quite warm, but also closer to
climatology. ~bro

Aviation
All TAF sites should seeVFR conditions while a brief reduction
in visibility and ceilings is possible around any mountain showers
and thunderstorms. Local southwesterly wind gusts up to 20 knots
possible in the delta after 21z. ~bro

Sto watches warnings advisories None.

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
