Synopsis
Low pressure system drops through the pacific northwest and into
the northern great basin today. Breezy north winds behind the
departing low pressure system will bring elevated fire weather
concerns tonight through Saturday. Warmer than normal over the
weekend with cooling again next week.

Discussion
Satellite imagery this afternoon shows clear skies over the
majority of northern california with a few cumulus clouds forming
over the mountains. This is mostly due to high pressure off to our
west; however, a broad trough is setting up shop over the northern
great basin. This trough will bring critical fire weather
conditions to elevations generally below 1000 feet across the
sacramento valley as northerly winds increase and low poor rh
recoveries occur. As a result, we have opted to go with a red flag
warning from 11pm pdt this evening thru 6pm pdt Saturday the
sacramento valley and adjacent foothills. Consideration for a
wind advisory was also given for the sacramento valley this
afternoon, but winds just barely made it to criteria. Depending on
the next sets of model guidance, we may need to upgrade to an
advisory. Regardless, Friday will be sunny but windy with high
temperatures being similar to today's.

Looking to the weekend, the airmass warms a bit bringing daytime
highs back up above normal and keeping humidity relatively low for
late june. Upper level high pressure ridge pushes in over the
state on Sunday bringing a little more warming but lighter winds.

This should allow humidity to climb a bit and combined with the
lighter winds should reduce fire weather concerns slightly.

.Extended discussion (Monday through Thursday)
dry weather and near or below average temperatures are expected
from Monday through the end of the period. An upper level low
approaches the pacnw Monday into Tuesday, with models diverging a
bit on timing when this feature moves onshore later in the week.

Either way, precipitation looks to stay north of california with
the main impact being the cooler temperatures. Valley highs Monday
begin near or just above normal Monday in the low to mid 90s,
cooling to the low and mid 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. For the
mountain areas, highs will be back down into the 50s and 60s by
Wednesday.

Aviation
Vfr skc conditions over interior norcal through 00z Sat except for
marine stratus and local MVFR CIGS vcnty of the bay and west
delta at times. North of kcic local nly surface wind g25 kts today
with nly barrier jet wind gusts 35 kts spreading swd on the west
side of the sac vly, especially after 03z-06z fri. Nly wind will
preclude stratus from penetrating inland Fri morning.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
