Synopsis
Periods of light rain and snow will impact parts of central pa
through midweek and may disrupt thanksgiving travel. Record
challenging cold is expected on thanksgiving before temperatures
moderate into the holiday weekend.

Near term through tonight
Little to no change to going forecast with this update. Swath of
light snow is right along the pa ny border. Radar sfc obs show a
lull in the light snow across northwest pa at this time.

However, another area of light is moving into northeast oh and
should reach the north-central mtns later this afternoon.

Previous...

fast broad cyclonic flow will bring several small amplitude
waves our way over the next few days. Satellite shows the first
of these moving through the lower lakes. Models develop an area
of light precipitation under an elongated jet entrance region
that extends from new england all the way back to the midwest.

Light QPF on the order of about a tenth of an inch or less will
affect mainly the northern 1 3-1 2 of the forecast area. A
coating to an inch or two of new snow is possible over the far
north where temperatures will be very near or below freezing.

Elsewhere, temps in the mid 30s or warmer will combine with
light precipitation rates, so even if the ptype is all snow, it
will likely not stick.

The jet entrance region and the associated frontogenetic
forcing is forecast to move through the area during the second
half of the overnight which should help bring somewhat of a lull
to the steady light precipitation. Once again the best chance
for a coating of new snow will be from about i-80 northward. The
southern 2 3 of the region will see marginal surface temps and
mainly rain or a rain-snow mix with little or now accumulation.

High temperatures today will be about 10-15 degrees below
average for mid november. Low temps in the mid 20s to 30s
will be closer to normal for the time of year.

Short term Monday
Another flat wave is progged to speed our way for Monday, this
time aiming mainly at southern portions of the forecast area.

Temperatures will be mild enough for light rain or at worst, a
light mix of rain and snow with no accumulations.

Highs will range from the mid 30s north to mid 40s south.

Long term Monday night through Saturday
A large upper level low will be located over hudson bay canada
through Wednesday. This system will dominate the pattern over
the eastern u.S. For much if not all of the upcoming week.

What looks to be the last in a series of fast moving moisture
starved shortwaves will move through the area Tuesday. The main
affect will be to usher in colder air with any mixed rain-snow
changing to light snow showers. High pressure building in from
the midwest will bring a westerly flow and a wind flow over the
gr lakes which at this time of year means more clouds and
lake orographically enhanced snow showers, mainly over the
western ridges.

A secondary cold front embedded in the NW flow aloft on
Wednesday will reinforce the chill and briefly enhance snow
showers over the nw.

But there is optimism that high pressure will quickly build
down with fair, albeit quote cold weather for thanksgiving day
into next weekend.

Aviation 16z Sunday through Thursday
Vfr MVFR CIGS prevailing into the afternoon with next period of
snow expected spread across the northern airspace through the
evening. Expect the swath of light snow and rain snow mix to
slowly sink southward into the southern airspace by late
tonight. Sub-vfr conditions are likely across most of the
airspace tonight into early Monday.

Outlook
Mon... Am low CIGS fog possible. Evening light rain low cigs
possible southern pa.

Tue... Am low CIGS snow showers possible W mtns.

Wed... Snow showers possible NW mtns.

Thu... No sig wx expected.

Climate
Record-challenging cold is forecast for thanksgiving day. Both
record low-max (daytime) and record low min (nighttime)
temperatures are in jeopardy.

Ctp watches warnings advisories
None.

Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
