Synopsis
Strong high pressure will remain over the region early this
week with mostly sunny days and very warm temperatures. A more
seasonal airmass, along with rain showers, will arrive later
this week.

Near term through Monday
400 am update...

main concerns in the near term today through Monday will remain
focused around the very warm, near record high temperatures, and
early morning valley fog.

The axis of the upper ridge will move into the area today with
500mb heights gt 590dm and 850mb temperatures around +20 degc. A
relatively deep layer of dry air within this upper ridge will
combine with large scale suppression to keep skies mostly sunny
today and allow temperatures to warm into the mid to upper 80s.

The record highs for today at ksyr kbgm kavp are 90 88 90 and
forecast highs 89 84 89 respectively.

Areas of valley fog this morning will lift and mix out after
sunrise and leave mostly sunny skies for the remainder of the
day. Another clear night tonight will make way for more valley
fog early Monday morning.

Will likely see a repeat of Sunday on Monday with highs reaching
into the upper 80s. The record highs for Monday are 91 86 89
respectively... So a few records could be broken.

Short term Monday night through Tuesday night
330 am update...

very warm and fairly muggy conditions will continue, with most
if not all of the area remaining dry.

With a very warm summerlike high pressure still sitting lazily
on top of the area, we can expect yet another night with valley
fog Monday night with lows of mainly lower-mid 60s. There may be
thin wispy cirrus trying to get into the area, but not enough
to prevent fog development. Then on Tuesday, widespread mid to
upper 80s are expected for highs, with a mostly sunny sky.

Dewpoints of mid-upper 60s will send heat indices to around 90
degrees or so at lower elevations of finger lakes through the ny
thruway corridor.

By Tuesday night, easterly flow level flow on the far outer
periphery of low pressure associated with hurricane maria, will
advect in enough moisture for increasing clouds against the
poconos-catskills, and perhaps even a shower or two. Overall
though things still look pretty dry for vast majority of
northeast pa-central ny, with lows again mainly lower-mid 60s.

Long term Wednesday through Saturday
330 am update...

forecast updated but with very little change to prior thinking.

Cooler times ahead after one more warm day Wednesday.

Previous discussion...

in the big picture, high pressure with upper level ridging and
dry weather will give way to an upper level trough in the east
as the pattern changes. In terms of details, Wednesday the
ridge will continue to break down as a cold front approaches
from the north and west and maria moves north to a point
somewhere off the carolina coast. This will result in a chance
of showers and even a few thunderstorms by Wednesday afternoon
into the evening. Ahead of the front, highs Wednesday look to be
at least in the low to mid 80s. The cold front will move
through Wednesday night and behind this feature temperatures
will drop back to near seasonal Thursday through Friday with
mainly dry conditions. Early indications are for the next system
to bring the area a chance of showers around the Friday night
into Saturday time frame.

Aviation 12z Sunday through Thursday
Valley fog currently stretching across the twin tiers from kelm
in the chemung basin ewd into the NRN branch of the
susquehanna. Should see conditions improve at kelm around
13-14z. May see a brief period of MVFR vsbys at kith and kbgm
this morning... OtherwiseVFR conditions expected through today
and most of tonight before low clouds and fog develop again late
tonight... Generally after 08z. Most likely location is kelm with
another round of airport minimums and MVFR vsbys at krme, kith
and kbgm. Kavp and ksyr are expected to stayVFR.

Winds will be light and variable this morning then NW late
morning and afternoon around 5-7 knots before becoming calm
again this evening and through the overnight hours.

Outlook...

Monday and Tuesday...VFR except for fog possible late
night early morning, especially at kelm but for other terminals
as well at times.

Wednesday Thursday... Restrictions possible in scattered
showers.

Bgm watches warnings advisories
Pa... None.

Ny... None.

It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
