Short term Tonight through Thursday.

Tonight will have lingering snow in the eastern highlands where
another 1 to 2 inches may fall in the mountains with some
potential for icy roads. Expect mainly dry conditions Tuesday and
Wednesday with only scattered snow showers in the central
mountains and upper snake river highlands. Another system will
move through idaho late Wednesday through Thursday with another
round of light snow likely. Generally 2 to 6 inches are expected
with this system in the central mountains with 1 to 3 inches in
the southern and eastern highlands and around an inch in the
eastern magic valley and snake river plain. Expect moderating
temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday with high temperatures
Wednesday10 degrees or more above normal. Will see temperatures
cool down Thursday with the cold frontal passage and likely
falling afternoon temperatures. Gk

Long term Thu night through next Mon night. With the long wave
500mb pattern very flat right now, by Thu night the gem state is
between the pacific upper level and a great plains ridge of much
less amplitude, the type of pattern for more clipper-type systems
for the upper mid-west. This does place the storm track nearly
overhead of southern idaho, and so would expect a wet pattern with
mild temperatures, maybe as mild as last week. The shortwave
activity diverges in the middle of the weekend, with the ECMWF much
drier at times than the gfs. Have increased pops early, but toning
down the GFS pops a little for Sat sat night. Tried to split the
difference beyond Sat night. A strong southerly downslope wind
expected on several days, mainly Fri sat. Messick

Aviation With a potential convergence zone event behind the
front, kdij is likely to be below field minimums this evening. In
the post-frontal environment, expecting some problems Tue morning
at all but ksun with stratus and fog making an impact. The worst
will likely be kida, kdij, and kpih. There is a slight chance of
airdrome closure during the morning hours after sunrise, but
confidence is low until more precipitation is seen, so have it
limited to ifr conditions at those three airports. By late
afternoon, expect ksun and kbyi to be goodVFR, heading for cig
and vsby unlimited. Wind will decrease during the evening at the
three snake river plain airdromes, kdij will be the last to calm
down. Messick

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
