updated aviation discussion

Update This morning the area remains between an offshore ridge
and a trough in alberta which will keep a generally dry and
stable weather pattern over the region today. A couple of models
are hinting at a few thunderstorms over the wallowa mountains and
far southeastern wallowa county this afternoon and early evening,
so have added isolated thunderstorms and increased cloud cover to
partly cloudy there. A shortwave visible on satellite imagery in
southern british columbia will be heading south this afternoon but
it appears any showers or thunderstorms will remain to our north
and east. May see some increased clouds in the washington columbia
basin late this afternoon and evening. The shortwave will also
help tighten pressure gradients and winds will increase to 10 to
20 mph this afternoon with 15 to 25 mph winds in the columbia
gorge and kittitas valley. Forecast high temperatures today looked
a little low so have raised temperatures a couple of degrees,
though it will still be a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday.

Tonight looks clear with winds remaining at 5 to 15 mph in the
columbia basin and light elsewhere. Lows will be in the 50s in the
lower elevations and in the 40s in the mountains. Forecast update
already out. Perry

Aviation Vfr conditions will persist at all TAF sites for the
next 24 hours. Winds will increase during the afternoon then
becoming light and diurnal this evening. 76

Prev discussion issued 230 am pdt Wed jun 28 2017... Corrected
short term... Today through Friday night... Dry and stable conditions
will continue to move into the forecast area behind a departing
weather system. There will be a warming trend today through at least
Friday as heights and 850 mb temperatures increase. There will be
locally breezy to windy conditions today... Mainly in the lower
columbia basin and adjacent valleys... Especially on exposed grassy
ridge tops and open areas without dense tall vegetation. Winds will
decrease tonight and will become mostly light and diurnally terrain
driven Thursday and Friday. Highs today will be in the mid 70s to
lower 80s... Which will warm to the mid 80s to lower 90s by Friday.

In the mountains temperatures will be about 5 to 10 degrees cooler.

These temperatures will be near normal today but will increase to
above normal by Friday. There will not be any threat of
precipitation or thunderstorms throughout the short term period. 88
long term... Saturday through Tuesday. High pressure will continue
to dominate the areas weather this weekend and into next week. A
couple of disturbances may approach the ridge and weaken this
temporarily. However the high pressure will rebuild itself and
influence the regions weather with dry conditions along with near to
slightly above normal temps through the period.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
