area forecast discussion
national weather service pendleton or
300 am pdt Thu mar 30 2017

Short term Today through Friday night. A long wave trough will
move across the two state area with clouds and showers expected
today. The bulk of the pcpn should be over our eastern zones. As the
trough moves across the region this afternoon... Breezy west winds
are expected from west to east. The additional rains could further
aggravate the already swollen rivers and streams. Snow levels will
remain above 4k feet and some minor accumulations could occur.

Drier conditions are forecast to move into the region tonight while
showers linger over the eastern mountains overnight. A dry ridge of
high pressure will dominate our entire areas weather into Friday.

Temperatures through the period will remain slightly below normal.

Long term Saturday through Thursday... Saturday an upper ridge
over the area will be flattening as a system moves over the ridge
into our area. The morning will be dry and in the afternoon and
evening there will be a chance of rain showers along the cascades
and eastern oregon mountains while the rest of the area remains dry.

Showers will taper off to just a slight chance of rain overnight.

Snow levels will be over 7000 feet for this system. Sunday morning
will be dry but Sunday afternoon and night a trough will cross the
area with a chance of rain and snow showers in the mountains with
snow levels starting out at 5500 feet and dropping to 4000-4500
feet. There will also be a slight chance of showers in the blue
mountain foothills and central oregon. Showers will taper off in the
eastern mountains Monday morning as a ridge builds over the area.

This will keep the area dry Monday afternoon through Tuesday
evening. Another system will be approaching Tuesday night and will
move the ridge off to the east. There will be a chance of showers
along the cascade crest late Tuesday night. Models have some timing
differences with the GFS bringing the system across the cascades
Wednesday and the ECMWF Wednesday night. Both bring rain across the
area through Thursday. Have a chance of rain with snow levels over
6000 feet for the entire area Wednesday through Thursday.

Temperatures Saturday will be in the mid 50s to mid 60s then cool to
the upper 40s and 50s Sunday and Monday. Tuesday through Thursday
will warm to the 50s and lower 60s. Perry

Aviation Previous discussion... 06z tafs... Conditions will
predominantly beVFR for the next 24 hours... Although krdm and kbdn
may experience brief MVFR tonight due to light rain. The chance of
precipitation at the remainder of the TAF sites is minimal but there
will be showers in the vicinity of kpdt and kalw. The main aviation
concern will be the increasing westerly surface winds on
Thursday... 10-20 knots gusting to 30 knots. Kdls may observe nw
winds 25g35 knots in the afternoon.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
