area forecast discussion
national weather service seattle wa
851 am pdt Fri may 24 2019

Synopsis A low will drop south from british columbia today,
bringing a chance for showers across the area, with isolated
thunder possible near cascade crest. Another low drops south for
Saturday with more widespread chances for showers. Drier and
warmer weather expected for the lowlands for next week with
chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms in the mountains
through memorial day.

Short term today through Sunday Cooler conditions today
across western wa due to strong onshore flow. Forecast highs are
in the lower to mid 60s, compared to the sunny and 70s we had on
Thursday. An upper level shortwave trough will clip the area today
for a chance of showers, mainly in the interior and in the
cascades. There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms near the
cascade crest where instability is the greatest. The current
forecast is on track. 33
previous discussion... Second low will take a track further west
and skirt the washington coast Saturday, dropping into northern
california by Sunday. This may allow for more widespread showers
on Saturday. Temperatures will be similar to today, maybe a degree
or two warmer.

Low then departs for Sunday, bringing drier weather for the
lowlands and temperatures warming back into the 70s. Much like
the past few days, still a chance for some showers and isolated
thunderstorms across the mountain as long wave western us trough
remains in place with a bit of instability. Ceo

Long term Monday through Thursday Previous discussion... Ridging
builds in next week with a return to dry weather and warm
temperatures. Will likely see periods of morning clouds and
afternoon sun. Memorial day highs will top out in the mid to upper
70s with low to mid 70s for the rest of the week. Pattern
suggests we may continue to see diurnally driven showers and
isolated thunderstorms in the mountains each day through mid-week.

Ceo

NOTE: East coast views moved to GEOS-16. They are experimental and not well supported by NOAA so they may not be correct so be warned. This change required redoing a large amount of the GOES code. If the image you are expecting is not showing, please let me know. You may need to use the EDIT function to update your location.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
