Marine Weather and Tides
Hydaburg, AK

Version 3.4
What's New / NOTES
5/20/2018 -- NOAA is having problems with the data feed that I use to draw the graphs. They are aware of the issue and working to resolve it. Sometimes changing the location by about a mile will give a correct graph. 3/3/2018 - There is a new GOES Satellite for the east coast that required rewriting that part of the code. Please report any issues.

national weather service juneau ak
257 pm akdt Tue may 22 2018

Short term Tuesday night to Thursday the stalled weather
front near the misty fjords region on Tuesday will be weakening
however will still be hovering around the misty fjords area
Wednesday morning. Light rain will likely be continuing overnight.

Meanwhile scattered to numerous showers for the panhandle
primarily along the coast from baranof to prince william sound
tonight will be weakening overnight and early part of Wednesday.

The northern inner channels look to be getting a brief break
midday on Wednesday.

The upper level support of the latest front will be moved inland
over the northeast gulf coast and northern panhandle and that
should be taking place late Wednesday night and early Thursday.

The precipitation should mainly occur over the northern portions
of the panhandle through slight chance pops may linger over the
southern sections.

Next frontal band late Thursday will be approaching the coast
from the gulf will be ushering in small craft winds along the
coast. Rain will be spreading in by Friday morning.

Fair agreement from models solutions today. Our favored solution
was a GFS nam blend. Most of the forecasts only needed some minor
adjustments, and most of the work today was on Thursday.

Long term Thursday through Tuesday as of 10 pm Monday another
low in a parade of lows that will enter the gulf from the bering
sea. This low will overtake the low that is already in the
northern gulf. Both fronts will keep precipitation falling through
the holiday weekend.

The second low looks to be coming in slightly stronger and now
will have winds to 25 kt in the gulf Thursday night and
Friday. The system does weaken as it moves east, so limited sca
flags may need to be hoisted along the outer coastal waters. By
Monday winds will diminish to 15 kt or less. Temperatures will
remain in the mid to upper 50s during the day and range into the
40s overnight.

Overall models remain in fairly good agreement. Used
gfs NAM canadian for updates to pressure and wind Thursday Thursday
night. Used ECMWF for updates through Friday night. Latest wpc
thereafter. Net effect was to increase winds to marginal small
craft intensity over the gulf Thursday and Thursday night with a
slight diminishing trend through Friday night. Overnight model
updates indicating that winds over the gulf may need to be
increased a bit more in subsequent forecasts. Diminished the
warming trend wpc had for early next week slightly limiting the
daytime highs at 60 degrees.

Aviation Marginal (MVFR) to normal (vfr) flight conditions to
be found across seak tonight. Some ceilings late this afternoon
2 to 3 thousand feet and or visibility of 4 to 5 miles over the
southern half of the panhandle. Think those conditions will likely
continue into tonight and early Wednesday. The northern part of
the panhandle could see the clouds lower overnight and increase
the amount of marginal conditions for flying by morning.

Ajk watches warnings advisories
Public... None.

Marine... Small craft advisory for pkz052.

Small craft advisory due to seas for pkz041>043-051-053.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
