Short term A high pressure ridge is building across the
panhandle and will strengthen today. The high pressure ridge will
produce partly cloudy to clear skies across the southern and
central areas of the panhandle by this afternoon. Clear to partly
cloudy skies will prevail across most areas of the panhandle on
Sunday. Dry conditions will continue across the panhandle through
this weekend with the high pressure ridge extending across the
region. Therefore with reduced cloudiness and dry conditions
afternoon temperatures will gradually warm today and Sunday
across most areas of the panhandle. Afternoon temperatures will be
warmer on Sunday. Overnight lows will be slightly cooler Sunday
morning across most areas of the panhandle with less cloud
coverage allowing for radiational cooling. Patchy fog will develop
across portions of the panhandle overnight tonight. The most
likely areas of the patchy fog will be the southern and central
portions of the panhandle as well as the yakutat and skagway
areas. The winds will be light to moderate through this weekend.

Afternoon sea breezes will occur across portions of the panhandle.

Models are in good agreement on the weekend forecast. The GFS and
nam were used for any changes to the forecast which were minimal.

Long term Monday through Saturday as of 10 pm Friday ... On
Monday a high pressure ridge sits over the eastern gulf and
western side of the panhandle. As the ridge starts to yield to the
front moving across the gulf, precipitation begins to spread in
from the west. The latest model run is showing that by late
Monday night early Tuesday morning the precipitation will have
spread across the entire panhandle. Once the wet pattern gets
here it looks to stick around through the rest of the week.

Temperatures are still on track for being above normal through
Tuesday. The central and southern inner channels on Monday will be
the warmest as the ridge is able to keep enough clouds at bay,
but then by late Tuesday afternoon the clouds will have spread
across the entire panhandle too. If the ridge is able to hold
strong a bit longer, this could slow the fronts eastern
progression of clouds and precipitation.

Main adjustment to winds was to increase them some over the gulf
mon-mon night. May have a period of gales along the N gulf as
barrier jet develops ahead of the front. Other than that, not a
lot of significant change made to the wind forecast.

Models continue to have better agreement on the progression of the
front that is moving across the gulf. Used a blend of GFS nam for
Monday through Wednesday and then more wpc beyond Wednesday.

Aviation An area of low clouds under the remains of weak trough
from the low late Friday has a broad area of ifr to lifr
conditions from petersburg south to dixon entrance and then west
to western prince of wales island. A small pocket of 2000 ft
ceilings are in the gustavus area. Expect the low clouds to lift
and burn off to scattered clear conditions by midday. Most
panhandle locations will be dealing with afternoon sea breeze
winds.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
