SHORT TERM
Settling weather for the short term with a system, currently visible on satellite, is now drifting southward with less of an influence on weather in SE AK. Modest vorticity advection through tonight will cause the occasional shower for the northern panhandle, and cloud cover over the northern half of the AOR. Some clearing in the southern panhandle will encourage some fog development from higher dew points and lighter winds from the directional transition. Currently not expecting widespread development, but patchy is definitely a possibility.

Clearing skies begins tomorrow morning from north to south with a ridge building in the gulf and aloft. Expect sea breezes in the usual places, which will bring temperature gradients between areas along the water and inland areas.

LONG TERM
/ Tuesday to Friday night / Tuesday and Wednesday look to non impact weather days, with a ridge of high pressure moving through the eastern gulf and panhandle leaving an area of high pressure near the north central gulf coast by Wednesday. A low pressure system undercuts the gulf coast area to Southern Haida Gwaii by Wednesday night.

A larger low moves from the Aleutians into the northern gulf and the front extends southeast. This front looks like it may be stalled out over the gulf just off the panhandle or just spread into the panhandle early Saturday.

AVIATION
Mostly VFR overnight with some rain showers moving across the Panhandle. Under any heavier show, likely see MVFR.
Will have to watch the potential for some fog development as skies clear aloft early Monday morning, higher confidence around around Klawock and Yakutat.

MARINE
Outside of Lynn Canal, variable to mostly southerly winds will calm and transition to northerly for the inside waters through tonight. The gradual transition will help seas subside before the transition to a mainly northerly component to winds. As a ridge builds in the gulf on Monday, a westerly component to winds will gradually take hold, further increasing from clearing skies. East west facing channels such as Icy Strait will likely have enhanced winds up to 15-20 knots during the daytime period. Fortunately, swell in the gulf will be mainly southwesterly, same as incoming winds into the inner channels, which will limiting seas.

Low level warm air advection aloft moving southeast along the eastern gulf coast tomorrow morning will bring some enhanced winds to these areas through Monday. Expect the area of maximum winds to move from north to south through Monday and Monday night.
