Discussion
Models... Very good agreement through 60 hours of so, then models
get a little confused on the evolution of the shortwave
approaching the northwest coast. Discrepancies in the major
features are minor with 2 to 5 dam height differences. Long wave
trough transitions a bit as ridging cuts into it over mainland
alaska Tuesday, but the ridging quickly weakens. Surface
solutions initialized well against the 25 06z analysis. Will be
utilizing a equal blend for the short term. Even the precipitation
solutions are similar today. Determining precipitation type will
be a huge task this week as we move deep into the transition
season and cold air aloft dives south.

Aloft at 500 hpa... A 504 dam 600 nm north of wrangel island will
move east over 80n to 150w by Tuesday morning, then moves
southeast to prince patrick island by Wednesday evening at 505
dam. A strong shortwave lies from the low to just east of point barrow
to ambler this morning and will dig a bit further south today to
lie from the low to nuiqsut to ruby this afternoon, and from
prudhoe bay to nikolai late this evening. Overnight it will
continue to dig south and move east to lie from demarcation point
to mcgrath as it digs southwest as it begins to merge with
troughing associated with a 532 dam low over cold bay that is
moving southwest. Ridging associated with a 558 dam high in the
gulf of anadyr is pushing in over the seward peninsula and norton
sound this morning and will weaken during the day, then strengthen
this evening as a ridge axis swings around the high and rotates
over the chukchi sea to be over kotzebue sound by Tuesday morning,
then weakens as the high pulls back to the southwest. Ridging over
the northeast pacific will push north over the gulf coast this
evening, the over the southeast interior Tuesday morning, then
push up over the central and eastern interior Wednesday. At 850
hpa... Zero isotherm lies from chalkyitsik to livengood to brevig
mission, and by Tuesday morning will lie from eagle to minchumina
to bethel. It will start drifting back north late Tuesday. The
-10 isotherm makes another glancing blow over the central arctic
coast today, but will stay north of the brooks range.

Surface... Weak leeside troughing is producing some gusty winds in
the eastern alaska range, but the gradient will fall apart later
today with winds diminishing. Big picture is a mess with broad
area of low pressure over the state with several low centers
floating around. High pressure building in over the arctic coast
behind the front moving through the area this morning has a 1023
mb center over the bering strait later today. Fronts are merging
over the interior and lie from around dawson yt to livengood to
mcgrath this morning and will be pushed south and east this
evening as it weakens. A 998 mb low 600 nm north of wrangel
island with a weather front extending southeast near point barrow
will move southeast to 500 nm north of point barrow as the front
moves east to the beaufort sea this evening. High pressure will
build in over the arctic coast behind the front with a 1023 mb
high moving over the arctic plain Tuesday morning. A second
weather front will move rapidly southeast across the arctic from
the western arctic this evening to the central arctic by Tuesday
morning and over the beaufort sea by Tuesday afternoon. A 1003 mb
low in bristol bay will move south of the alaska peninsula and
merge with a 994 mb low moving out of the north pacific. The low
will move to 100 nm south of kodiak island as it strengthens to
988 mb Tuesday afternoon.

Arctic coast and brooks range... Some dense fog this morning on the
eastern arctic coast, improving conditions late this morning. A
mix of precipitation across the area as the fronts move through
the area. Some mixed rain and snow changing to all snow this
morning. No significant snowfall is expected. Winds northwest
becoming west tonight 10 to 20 mph.

West coast and western interior... Some occasional rain along the
front from south of galena today. Rain tapering off as the front
slowly dissipates over the next 36 hours. Partly cloudy from
galena north today. Winds along the coast north at 5 to 15 mph,
while inland winds will be light and variable. No significant
change in temperatures through Wednesday.

Central and eastern interior... Some light rain, mainly south of
the yukon river today. It will taper off as the front slowly
dissipates over the area the next 36 hours. No significant
rainfall is expected. Slight chance of snow over the interior
summits this morning with no accumulation expected. Winds gusty in
the central and eastern alaska range to around 35 mph today
diminishing this evening. Winds around the remainder of the
interior will be variable to 10 mph. No significant change in
temperatures.

There are five sources. 1) Documents and manuals from a variety of sources. These have not been checked for accuracy and in many cases have not even been read by anyone associated with L-36.com. I have no idea of they are useful or accurate, I leave that to the reader. 2) Articles others have written and submitted. If you have questions on these, please contact the author. 3) Articles that represent my personal opinions. These are intended to promote thought and for entertainment. These are not intended to be fact, they are my opinions. 4) Small programs that generate result presented on a web page. Like any computer program, these may and in some cases do have errors. Almost all of these also make simplifying assumptions so they are not totally accurate even if there are no errors. Please verify all results. 5) Weather information is from numerious of sources and is presented automatically. It is not checked for accuracy either by anyone at L-36.com or by the source which is typically the US Government. See the NOAA web site for their disclaimer. Finally, tide and current data on this site is from 2007 and 2008 data bases, which may contain even older data. Changes in harbors due to building or dredging change tides and currents and for that reason many of the locations presented are no longer supported by newer data bases. For example, there is very little tidal current data in newer data bases so current data is likely wrong to some extent. This data is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. See the XTide disclaimer for details. In addition, tide and current are influenced by storms, river flow, and other factors beyond the ability of any predictive program.
