Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1047 PM EDT Mon Sep 27 2021

DISCUSSION. Currently - High pressure aligned off the Atlantic coast is spreading relatively dry moderate northeast to east breezes across the Keys area. After visiting the upper 60s during the afternoon, dew points have crept up into the lower 70s. Meanwhile, the Keys are now aligned under the descending branch of an upper level trough off the Florida Atlantic coast. This evenings sounding indicated PW has diminished to around 1.1 inches. This is down almost three quarters of an inch from 24 hours ago. In addition, lower level inhibition is slightly more robust. CAPE remains quite sufficient however. The dry air put a major damper on mainland seabreeze convection. So, despite the northeasterly steering flow, little to no activity was able to form. Only recently a few showers and a brief thunderstorm was able to develop on boundaries in our gulf waters off the Lower Keys and in the Florida Straits off of the Upper Keys.

Short Term Update - Ridging will persist over the southeastern United States and the adjacent large bodies of water, maintaining moderate northeast to easterly breezes across the Keys. The relatively dry flow will help to keep dew points near or slightly above 70. Rain chances will remain slim but not out of the question. Not much cooling is expected and overnight lows will be near 80.

MARINE. A ridge to our north will maintain moderate northeast to east breezes across the Keys and surrounding waters. Drier air invading the area will keep shower coverage suppressed overnight with a very small chance for thunderstorms. Only minor wind transition adjustments made in the evening marine update.

AVIATION. VFR conditions will prevail at both EYW and MTH through tomorrow tomorrow with northeast to east winds near 10 knots with an occasional gust near 20 knots.
