Area Forecast Discussion . UPDATED National Weather Service Miami FL 1237 PM EST Fri Dec 3 2021

AVIATION(18Z TAFS). The east coast sea breeze is pushing across the east coast TAF sites early this afternoon allowing for the easterly winds to develop over the east coast TAF sites. The winds will then become light and variable after 00Z tonight. KAPF TAF site will see a west coast sea breeze this afternoon before going VRB tonight. VFR conditions at all TAF sites through Tonight. However, KAPF and KTMB could see some fog late tonight which could reduce the ceiling and vis. Not enough confidence to put in the TAF sites at this time.

PREV DISCUSSION. (Issued 834 AM EST Fri Dec 3 2021)

UPDATE . High pressure continues to dominate South Florida's weather today keeping dry conditions along with comfortable temperatures. Therefore, the current forecast looks on track and no changes are expected at this time.

PREV DISCUSSION . (Issued 629 AM EST Fri Dec 3 2021)

AVIATION(12Z TAFS) . VFR conditions at all terminals throughout the forecast period. Easterly winds will occur over the TAF sites today before going light tonight, except at KAPF taf site where the winds will go westerly this afternoon. Patchy FG/BR is possible early Saturday AM mainly over the interior areas. However, TMB could see patchy fog during the early morning hours Saturday but the confidence is low to have it in the TAF site at this time.

PREV DISCUSSION . (Issued 209 AM EST Fri Dec 3 2021)

SHORT TERM (Now through Saturday) .

High pressure will continue to spread quickly eastward today and eventually end up over the western portions of the Atlantic. The temperatures today will be the main focus with most of the area a degree or two below climo for early December (and a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday) with some very weak CAA. As time progresses, the surface flow, albeit light will begin to transition to an easterly direction, especially later this afternoon and persisting through the remainder of the short term. This will allow for a gradual warming trend going into the start of the weekend. With the return flow low-level moisture will trend up. Winds look to drop to near calm over much of the forecast area tonight. Confidence in some patchy fog Saturday morning is starting to increase, especially over the fog favored interior and western east coast metro. During the day on Saturday the upper-level flow becomes somewhat stagnant as heights modestly increase, again signaling the aforementioned gradual warming trend. Also, added silent 10 percent POPs to the Atlantic waters as a rogue low topped shower or two may be possible with the increase in boundary layer moisture.

LONG TERM (Saturday night through Thursday Night) .

Early in the long term period the light easterly return flow will continue through the weekend and into early next week. Gradually temperatures will continue to warm and more low-level moisture continues to advect into the region. During the early morning hours on Sunday morning and again on Monday morning, there is a signal for fog, especially across the interior and fog favored areas. At this time confidence is somewhat low, but will likely need to be added in subsequent forecasts as the right ingredients are in place with moisture pooling ahead of a weak cold front and calmer winds overnight.

Speaking of the “weak cold front” this feature will move southward through the northern peninsula of Florida by early next week. The front will eventually become stationary somewhere between the Lake Okeechobee region and I-4 corridor as it becomes parallel to the upper-level flow. As the front nears, some isolated to scattered shower activity may develop, especially where the better low level moisture resides over the Atlantic and eastern half of the southern peninsula. Aloft, conditions appear dry so any showers that develop will remain low-topped limiting thunder potential. Kept rain chances relatively low at this juncture with the best POPs remaining north and east of our forecast area where the better upper-level support is forecast to remain.

Going into mid to late week next week upper-level heights will continue to increase as a robust ridge begins to take shape over the western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. This will allow the warming trend to accelerate with unseasonably warm temperatures anticipated by the close of the forecast period.

AVIATION(06Z TAFS) . VFR conditions at all terminals throughout the forecast period. Lgt/vrb winds and mostly clear skies overnight tonight before a return of easterly flow and FEW/SCT high clouds. Patchy FG/BR is possible early Saturday AM (outside the forecast period for all 24-hr TAFs but included lowering CIGs in the 30-hr TAFs) though confidence too low to warrant mention at this time.

MARINE . Generally benign marine conditions expected through the weekend as high pressure begins to move into the region from the Gulf of Mexico. Winds will be generally light through into the start of the weekend and become light to moderate early next week as they shift to a more easterly direction behind the then departing surface high pressure. An approaching cold front early next week may generate a few scattered showers. Thunder chances should remain on the low side.

BEACHES . The rip current risk will remain elevated along the Palm Beach County Beaches through the weekend and perhaps into early next week. Additionally, King Tides may present some localized minor coastal flooding, especially as winds begin to transition to a more easterly direction on Saturday.

CLIMATE . High temperatures in the long term are forecast to run 4 to 7 degrees above normal for this time of year. See forecast temps vs. records below for Monday through Thursday below . Mon HIGH RECORD YEAR AVE
